Its amazing how many people do have Hiatal hernia repairs with VSG. I was one of them
too. I dont think my recovery was longer.  I just had shoulder pain with my recovery and
I havnet ran into anyone who shared the same experience. If anything, It was needed
and I feel SOOoooooOOOooo much better.  I use to throw up in my sleep during sleep
apnea. I would chock and it would burn my nose the acid relfuex was so bad.  Today I am
healed, and I am just amazed.

Nope,  no long time in healing.

Thanks doc, we have similarities, I also threw up at night unless I was sitting straight up, but I have not had that problem since surgery, I have horrible left shoulder pain they tell me its nerve pain, heating pads are helping. and I have a bad head ache, but I definitely feel better than I did, its getting better, thanks for all your support. Its nice to know it will end at some point.

omg your the first person that had the same exact sympton as me. I used a heating pad
too.  I can tell you this...  it will go away.  give everything including incision pain about 3 1/2 weeks and then you will be able to enjoy your sleeve.  I was the same exact way.
You can do this. As long as you know this is part of recovery,  you will be on your way
with the head part.   now of coarse if you feel there is something radically wrong...then go
to the doctor.   Its never a bad thing to over call your doctor.

I have no idea why I am jumping up and down because i finally found someone who had
the exact same symptons as me.    Hang in there.....  rest   and baby what you need to.
This is your time...  All for you....  and  you are a newborn headed for a real big life change...
That is you falling in love with yourself all over again....

I had a hiatal hernia repair with vsg also. No problems here infact I never had to take any pain medication at all. My surgery was on the 18th and I've been able to take deep breaths for a few days now. I had a little shoulder pain, not much heating pad did help, but last year I had 2 knee surgeries and had severe shoulder pain with them. I was told it is the gas they pump in us. It seems to be more painful than what ever they operated on you for. Hope this passes for you soon. Good luck and great success to you.

Yep, I had mine fixed during VSG surgery.  My recovery presented with moderate pain (nothing unmanageable), no nausea or vomiting or anything that didn't mesh with what I heard here with some other folks' recovery stories.  My doc said that I had a lot of swelling when we did the leak test after and I think that is what made it so hard to start eating solids at even 6 weeks out (when the doc allows for solids).  I choose to go an extra week and a half on mushees because of it.  I think the additional work in that area may have contributed to the extra swelling.

I know the post is old, but how long did it take for you to be able to really take a deep breathe? I am 4 days post-op and still have a hard time taking a deep breathe.

Thanks,

Michelle

I remember that felling, I truly thought there was something wrong, but it does get better Im not sure how long it took but I remember being afraid that I would never breathe right again, just give it time, do you have one of those, breathing exercising things with the little ball in them..... that helps alot, just keep trying it will take at least a week, Congrats on your surgery!......all in all you will not be sorry!
