I was sure I was not going to do this, but.......
Hi Boomercd:
You are perfectly NORMAL. I'm an ultrasound tech and I like you was soooooo sure I wanted this for the past six months. Now I"m 24 days out from my surgery and suddenly thinking horrible thoughts about the WORST possible outcome.
I've made peace by thinking about like this. Life is a risk. I could get run over by a bus tomorrow or my plane could crash on the way to surgery in Vegas. Surgery is a risk. We have to do what we can to minimize that by following the Dr.'s instructions pre and post surgery. If you are in good health now this is as good a time as any to have this type of thing done. In ten years you might not have the quality of health needed to have a major operation like this one.
As an LPN I'm sure you see people every day who are heavier particularlly the older patients whose back and knees hurt and *****ally don't have a good quality of life because of their size. I'm determined not to be one of those people. I try to take their message (whether they know it or not) to heart and take this step NOW to live a better life.
Just my thoughts. I hope this helps you.

You need to stop the chatter in your brain. It's normal, but you just have to stay focused on the prize. These surgeries are so routine today...of course it's possible something could go wrong, that's a possibility any time anyone goes into surgery for any reason. But the odds are incredibly in your favor, and oh, the rewards cannot be captured in words. I am 9 months out and my only regret is not having done the surgery years sooner! I feel fabulous. I look incredible. Yes, ME! I look and feel years younger! I am doing things I never thought I'd do. I'm getting a real life back and loving it! You need to get that if you don't do this, this is as good as it gets and it will be all downhill physically from here. That's the raw truth! You know this! THink you have pain now? What do you think you'll be like in 5, 10, 15 or 20 years? Sure there's a bit of risk in having surgery...but how much risk will you be in if you don't! Heart attack? Diabetes? Worsening arthritis, feet that you can hardly stand on, worsening back pain! You get my drift! Focus on the positive. THink positive. Focus on dreaming of a wonderful new you truly enjoying your wonderful life. Trust your medical team. YOu've done the research. You know it's right for you. You're ready. Just keep focused, keep your eye on the prize, breathe deep, and know that you're going to be loving yourself and life so much more in a very short amount of time, and you'll be wondering what all that second guessing was about. THis is the beginning of the rest of your life. ANd it's about to get a LOT BETTER! Good luck to you...
Something can go wrong with ANY surgery....but I will just say that this is one reason why it is sooooooooooo important that you do your research.
Have surgery with a competant doctor who has done so many sleeves he could do it in his sleep. If you take that route...there is very little that could go wrong and you will be in good hands.
