Night Sweats NOT caused by Menapause or Perimenapause - Anyone Else?
I think my doctor is going to nominate me for Medical Freak of the decade.
I am 18 months post-op and at goal weight since November. I have been suffering from horrible night sweats for about 9 months now ... but they really started about a year ago. I'm talking about saturating my night gown and sheets several nights a week. Other nights, it may be mild or not at all.
So far, we've ruled out
Sometimes when I wake up, I have that shaky feeling like you get when you haven't eaten in a while along with that sweat that just pours out from no where. Does anyone relate?
I'm starting to wonder if I may have hypogylcemia only at night. Sounds like it is uncommon, but it does exist. When I eat some protein (especially cheese) at night, it seems like the sweats are better. Not every time, but many times. Just a hunch right now.
I have another follow-up appoint on Tuesday to discuss next steps since the Hodgkin's and Leukemia tests came back negative (NEVER SO GLAD TO GET NEWS AS I WAS ON THOSE - I was really scared!) And let me tell you ... drinking 60 oz of barium smoothie in 2 hours with a tiny tummy is no small feat!!!!
Well ... just wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone else had this issue. If so, it would really be helpful to hear so I can talk to my doctor more about my "theory".
Thanks for your help!

So far, we've ruled out
- Menapause and perimenapause with estrogen level testing (twice!)
- Medication interactions
- Hyperthyroidism
- Infection
- HIV
- Hodgkin's Disease
- Leukemia

This is totally crazy, but by any chance are you taking Nexium? I had been on Nexium and had absolutely hideous hot flashes. I mean like terrible....sweat just running off of me and having to change the sheets and jammies.
Anyway...so nexium can cause hot flashes. I stopped the nexium and changed to a different PPI and the hot flashes were gone almost instantly!
Just a thought.

I so wish this was the case. I was on a generic of Prilose****il 3 months ago. We stopped it to see if I still needed it ... I did fine for the first 2 months, but I've been having some acid reflux recently. I'll probably start back again. Another topic for next week's appoint.

I have been having night sweats for some time though not as bad as yours sound. Doctor didn't think there was anything serious going on. I thought it might be due to less estrogen due to less fat on me now. He thought that might be the case but found no sign of the more serious stuff it can be. So I guess I just put up with it but its not as bad as yours. And I do not take nexium or any other ppi. Hope you can get some help. Diane.
I really know nothing about estrogen and it's affects (even though I am a girl!) ... do you think my estrogen levels would come back "normal" if I had less of it in my body due to less fat?
Without the full tank testing, I've been tested with the handheld equipment at around 26% fat.

yup.
53....10 years post hysterectomy. never taken any hrt. and the
sweats in the months post op have been unreal.
i too have wondered if it's from the estrogen changes with the loss of so much fat since fat produces estrogen.
haven't investigated further nor have i spoken with the doc.
i guess we're medical freaks together....at least we're not fat medical freaks anymore!
