What were your results on Biotin? Did it help?

I am trying to keep my hair, like all of us do. Ha Ha

Anyway, I read on here to take Biotin. I normally don't like adding just anything to my diet like that but I really don't want to lose my hair either.

Could anyone tell me about the results they got on Biotin? And how much they took?

Thank so much!

Most folks who take Biotin dont take enuogh for it to be effective. You need to take a minimum of 5000mcgs a day. I take 7000 mcg a day. I've been using it for years. It keeps my hair full and nails long.

It also helps with metabolising carbs (at that high dosage) and is good for diabetics :)

If you're concerned about your hair, you have 3 options

Protein treatments like Aphogee two step treatment. It strengthend hair from the outside and provents breakage

Garlic pills or Garlic shampoo, which stop shedding

Biotin in high dosages.

A combo of all three should eliminate any hairloss.

I have naturally thin fine hair, and an issue with thinning hair overall.. I've been on biotin for well over a year, and it didn't do anything really noticeable for my hair.. However, I started it because I wanted better nails- and that it did give me. I had thin peeling nails, now I have thicker (still peeling if I don't care for them) nails!

5000mcg a day, work up to it by buying the 1000mcg and take one a day for 2 weeks, add another etc.. till you get to 5000mcg. Biotin can cause acne in some, but it usually goes away. Many swear by the Nature's Bounty brand to not do this.. I had minimal issues in the beginning, none now.

The hairs switch to the non-growth cycle after the stress of surgery and fast weight loss, and nothing you can take or apply or any shampoo will turn them back on and keep them from shedding. It's temporary, and they grow back.. we normally have a small percentage of hairs doing this at any one time, but after an event like surgery, combined with fast weight loss- many more go into the cycle at the same time.. I've been through it when I lost over 100lbs on my own (so it's not just surgery that can cause it).. it passes, but biotin may help the regrowth, and can't hurt.. plus you may enjoy your nails! In the meantime, play with volumizing products, and use a protein shampoo & conditioner once or twice a week to help it look thicker.. but otherwise, know it will come back!

*In case anyone is considering it- Rogaine also does not help with this type of shed. I've been on Mens Rogaine for over a year due to genetic thinning, and the shed ha**** me full force.. Rogaine helps with DHT sensitive follicles, not shedding related to telogen effluvium which we are going through after surgery..

Trust me, I WISH I didn't know so much about hair loss!! I just got the short end of the family stick on that one.. after seeing derms and an endo for tests.. I just have sensitive shed-prone hair! My aunt is almost bald, I will rock a wig if it comes to it!

Funny should say that. I was at Sally's beauty supply yesterday looking for white bobby pins for my mother and while I was browsing around I saw these hair clips that have a bunch of cute hair on them. You put your hair in a pony tail and then clip this on to the ponytail. I makes your hair look so full and cute! I bought one for when I don't feel like doing my hair when I am just running somewhere quick. I thought it might be a good alternative too if I do start losing a bunch of the few hairs I do have. Ha Ha They have a full product line. They also have these clip in swatches of hair I thought I might try if my hair gets bad. I don't think I could stand a full wig but I guess if these things are not cutting it, I would have no choice. I certainly am not going to walk around with 3 sprouts sticking out of my head! Ha Ha

Thanks for the advice!!

I have naturally very thin hair. I started taking the Biotin about a month before surgery-1000MG a day. So far-knock on wood-I have not had any hair loss. Research I did and Doctor's I spoke to all said there is no full proof the Biotin works- but it doesnt hurt to take it either.

An "old timer" on here that I've been writing back and forth with over the past month or so HIGHLY recommended Ovation Cell Hair Therapy products.  In addition to her VSG, she's also done plastics and suffered from hair loss pretty signficantly.  She swears by this product and swears she's not getting paid to do so.  I purchased the three step sytem (shampoo, cell therapy, moisture rinse) and plan to start using it this week (surgery is Tuesday).  It is supposed to make your hair (and nails) stronger, grow faster, and stimulates growth in dormant (not dead) folicles.

My hair has always been my thing and I'm terrified of losing it.  I even have a hair cut scheduled for Saturday to take some of the weight off of it (I've always had long or very long hair).  I'm sure I'll post on my blog how it's working after a few months.  Good luck!

OCT is great for growing length, but doesnt really treat thickness, if thats folks' issue.

MegaTek is good for thickness, but some folks are against topical products like that.
