HELP!!! I HAD TO BUY DEPENDS TODAY!!!! Ugh!!!!!!!

I have had a real problem with diarrhea lately! I have had 2 major accidents, one in my car on the way to pick up my son from carpool!!! Talk about embarrassing. The whole car stunk to high heavens! It was soooo embarrassing!!!!!

I get almost no warning at all. Like 10 seconds and bam, there it is, ready or not. It's awful.

It happened again today on the way to the store. I had to stop at the gas station and go running in like a crazy lady and still didn't make it in time!!!  It's sooooooooo gross!!!!!

Everything has been great except for this one issue. I am 3 1/2 weeks out and have been on liquids since surgery. I am finally on soft foods but it's only gotten worse. I made the mistake of trying a weee bit of soft lasagna one night and paid for 2 days. I thought as long as I went back to my liquids I would be okay. Then this gas station deal happened today. After that horrible experience I drove straight to the store and bought depends!

I am so confused. I thought if I got on real food this would be better, not worse. So I am like do I go back to liquids to slow this back down or do I need to work through it and get my tummy used to eating food again?

Please, please, please help me figure out what to do. I have to wear depends for goodness sake!!! ehhhh. I really don't know what to do. I just want to at least get enough warning to deal with it and not have any more accidents.

Any advice would sure be appreciated!!
On my way!!!!!!

Have you tried taking a probiotic?  They work great when you are sick and suffering from diarreha, or taking antibiotics that cause it.  Align and Culterelle are two more common names.  Good luck.

My advice would be to consult your doctor or NUT to see if diet changes are needed. Other than that, if it was me, I would get to solid protein filled foods as soon as possible. The more fiber and dense the protein, the less of a chance you will have with diarrhea. Also, diarrhea is a symptom of dehydration sometimes so make sure you are getting enough fluids.

I did not have these problems after surgery though, so I would definitely talk to your doctor about it to ensure there are no deficiencies or diet problems. I am sorry you went through that - very embarassing. But it will get better as you move along to real foods. Your body will begin to adjust.

Difference of opinion. I am a paramedic and have often seen people who suffer from dehydration who get diarrhea, who then get more dehydrated. Diarrhea is a symptom. But I do not know if that is what is going on in this case. Sorry if we disagree.

Sorry to hear about your issues.  Sounds like you got it a little worse than most, but many of us experience the issue to some degree.  I'm sure it will pass with time.  The change in diet to solids will help in the long term, but the changeover itself may be a little difficult for your system based on what you've told us.  It will get better.

Why don't you shoot Gaby an email and ask her to talk to Dr Campos or Dr Aceves? That's what she's there for. :) I remember my packet saying to take immodium if I had diarrhea, but you're not too far out, so I would send her an email and see what the doctors would like you to do. You shouldn't have to wear depends. And yes, keep up on your fluids and electrolytes as long as you have diarrhea so you don't dehydrate. Gaby will get back to you quickly.

Might be an infection.  I had horrible diarrhea after surgery, including some accidents (was at home both time luckily but literally couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough).  Turns out I had a c diff infection.  Nothing to mess around with.  Call your surgeon!

Good luck!  Hope you feel better soon.
