I am sorry for the dumb question, but I have never had to take any of this kind of stuff before.

I took Miralax around 6pm yesterday and still nothing.  Is this one of those things that takes a few days to work?

Miralax is a stool softener, not a laxative, meaning it doesn't stimulate your large colon to move things along.  With me it usually takes a couple days to see an effect.

Could take a few days- sorry, not what you wanted to hear!  Keep taking it every day and you'll see results...

I hadn't dropped a deuce in about 7-9 days.. then popped in a suppository... My bottom was making out with the porcelain in about 20 minutes.... Miralax doesn't work if you need to go right away.

I had a lot of issues with constipation.  Take miralax daily.  Make sure that you are getting in at least 64 oz otherwise you don't produce enough water to help your bowel move the stool along.  I also really recommend picking up some prune juice.  It really isn't that bad I diluted mine with water.  I try to drink about 4oz of prune juice a day and keep up with my miralax.  However if I miss a day or two I do notice my stools get hard again.

I was in pretty bad pain so I did have to do the suppository.  Which was just gross putting it in, etc.  Mine worked after about 40 minutes.  It did not competely empty me.  I had taken miralax the day before.  It worked about 2 days after I took it.
My doctor also wants me to start taking benefiber the kind that dissolves clear in liquid.  I haven't started fiber yet though but I will soon.  Hope that helps.

I read a really interesting article online about constipation after surgery.  A normal person with a healthy weight is supposed to drink 64 oz of water a day.  For every 20lbs you are overweight you are supposed to add another 8oz to drink.  Kind of interesting.
