In need of help from my fellow sleevers!!!
I really like this response -- you've basically articulated all of the reasons why I chose VSG over any other surgery. Actually, my surgeon talked me out of the lap band and from the research I did after our initial meeting, boy am I glad he did. My surgery is on Tuesday so I have no actual results to share, just the fact that through all of my research (and my surgery consultation), VSG was the most appealing option for me.
Wow your surgery is this week! Think how different life with be a year from now? People told me that and I didn't believe it could happen to me - but it did! It works!
I haven't just lost the weight, I've lost that annoying person inside me - the one who was convinced I couldn't succeed at anything, the one who constantly put me down. I was my worst enemy. At some point in the last year I learned to accept me - to actually like me. That is as important to me as the weight loss, although I'd sure they go together.
Let us know how your surgery goes!
I don't get on here as often as I used too. I remember worrying about some of the people a year or 2 out from the sleeve as they disappeared from the board. I wondered if they were sick, or was the sleeve no longer working. People kept saying no, they are just too busy with life to post here as often. It's true - it does happen. I need to get on here more often - but darn it, it's summer time and for the first time in my life I can enjoy it! I can wear cute clothes - in a size 14 too. All of a sudden life is fun!
You are starting an exciting journey, one that can take you to wonderful places. Read the lyrics to "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. Yes, it's pretty sappy - but it is a whole new world that you are traveling to. Don't forget to enjoy the journey - because you'll learn so much in the next year that will help you forever.

There is not much to add here, reading the terrific responses. But my two cents is to just do your research. Such an individual decision, with pros and cons for the different procedures. Personally, I spent over a year contemplating and reading the boards before I came to my decision to get sleeved, and I am very pleased. As another person noted...I would not let a surgeon with only 4 sleeves under his belt touch me either. Yikes!
Good Luck :)

My surgeon told me up front that "of course he has done less sleeves than RNYs or lap bands, because it is a newer surgery" however, he had already done many of them. Also, he had a ton of experience in general laproscopic surgery -- and he agreed with me, that because of my other medical problems and need to take steroids and anti-inflamatories at times, that a sleeve was the BEST choice for me.
He was confident, and I was pleased with my surgical experience. If your doctor is not confident of his abilities, or you are not confident of them, he should not be your surgeon.
As far as expected weight loss......I expect to lose weight. I watch what I eat, my sleeve reminds me to eat small, I exercise, I get in my needed fluids, and I lose weight. Maybe it isn't as fast as someone with a more invasive surgery, or a more radical one, but I am thrilled with my progress.

Your doctor has NO stats of his own with only four sleeves and he obviously is not a big fan of the sleeve. I would not let him touch me. Find a great surgeon who has fabulous personal stats with the sleeve and knows how to do this right. You only have one body, there is no room to play around with this. Get it done right by a great doctor and you will not regret it.
There are so many reasons I would not chose the RNY, just search this site for pyloric valve and see what you find.
