I am NOT deprived

I have always respected your position and your dedication to the diet (I mean that in the sense of the way that you eat) that you have mindfully chosen for yourself. Obviously, for me I don't feel I have to give anything up to enjoy my favorite indulgences- so my cost benefit would look a little different written out than yours. I guess I feel like *I* can have my cake and eat it too (pun intended). But I have nothing but respect for the dedication you have given to being healthy and helping others!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

I think one of the main reasons this works for you is that you don't seem to have the binge tendencies, like that you can eat a little of something and not get triggered.  If I could do that I would, you know?

I agree but i think we are lucky to not have binge tendencies if we did......we might choose foods differently.......I dunno?

I came to this EXACT same conclusion in regards to junk foods - and I have mentioned it as well.  For me it was thinking about a McDonald's cheeseburger.  Yea, I loved those nasty little *******s.  With fries and a diet coke, LMFAO.  I thought about this:  It takes me about 1 minute to eat one of those cheeseburgers.  1 minute!  So for 1 minute of false pleasure, I have done this to myself."  And the cheeseburger was just an example, I ate crap all the time and lots of it.

Now what it comes to eating - I prefer to eat things that contain max nutrition.  It literally grosses me out to think about eating junk, fast food, fried foods, etc.  I am amazed and grateful for the way my thinking has changed.  Because my appetite is still good and I still get hungry.

Exactly.. a few minutes of pleasure eating, but all day long I am FAT and MISERABLE! So not worth it!  And the change in thinking.. the shift when it happens.. it's something you can't undo.. you can't think about food the same ever again.

Like you, the thought of eating french fries disgusts me! On a side note, we totally need to  meet and hang out.. us like-minded folks. :)

I know exactly what you mean!  I purposefully/intentional think about food in a different way now.  I think hard about how big macs and ice cream stands in the way of my happiness and health.  I love my sleeve and how I'm satisfied with nutrient-filled/life-giving food.

Thank you for posting, you took the words right out of my mind!!!

Yes!  It used to be when I started thinking about having ice cream, in my brain I think about how disappointed in myself I would be, how I would feel if I stepped on the scale and gained weight, how tired it would make me feel.  Now it's just an automatic thing..  my relationship with food is just transformed. There's no struggle.. I truly have no interest.

When people talk about all the different ways they want to find to negotiate with party food, fit the party food in their diet, figure out how many calories the party foods have,  exercise the party food off, etc. I sometimes wish they could have the same relationship with food that I have.. to be free of those thoughts.

That I could share this with them.  I know not everyone wants that.. it's just something that feels so good to me I feel compelled to share it.

I came to the conclusion that sugary carbs are poison to me. Pre-surgery, I would deprive myself until I lost the weight or gave up, then went back to my same habits. Always with the idea that I'll have just a little. A little can't hurt, right? For me, I could never stop at a little. I don'****ch my fats but I do vigilantly watch my carbs. I can have a bite of my husband's ice cream occasionally, but I won't have it in my house or have an entire ice cream cone for myself. I have learned to change my desires. I make a high protein/low carb ice cream that is as an indulgence to me. What others may hate taste wise, satisfies me and that's all that counts. I think I have actually accepted that I will always do low carb. That's my reality and if I can keep my weight off, then the trade off is well worth it! Thanks for the post!
