Thinking about Plastic Surgery after VSG..my experience..

All this talk of Jen's tummy tuck today made me want to share with those of you that are interested my experience with my plastic surgery consult today...

Hi, my name is Kristen and I had a VSG..in December to be exact. I am right around where I want to be weight wise so I decided to see what the plastic surgeon had to say about correcting my saggy tummy and breasts..After all, if I get into vet school I will be on St. Kitts in the Carribean for almost 3 years, studying in a swimsuit!

The twist in my tale is that I am 27, have never had kids, and dont plan on having them for at least another 6 years. I have to get through vet school and all that before I can consider little ones. I have heard so many times that its a waste to do a tummy tuck before kids, that the surgeon wont do it pre-kids, that there wont be skin for a pregnancy, etc etc etc.

Today, I went to one of the best plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the area/nation and he told me YES he will/can do it, that I will be able to have a normal pregnancy in the future and that most of what he does will NOT be undone with a pregnancy. He told me that I am lucky my skin has really behaved well bouncing back after VSG but there is alot he can really do for me..

I know for myself that I didnt want to wait a decade walking around with a saggy tummy and breasts. My family, was not really originally in support of my VSG is actually a bit more supportive with this and surprisingly my dad offered to pay for half of the 11,500 for tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction, and breast lift (mastopexy)..Now to find the other 6,000...hmm..

The moral of the story: Stay positive, know what you want, seek out facts for yourself, and never give up!! VSG has helped to change my life and even if I walk around with saggy tummy and breasts I will take that in a heart beat over sitting on the side lines at 258 pounds!!!!

$11,500 is a great quote for the work and PROPS to dad for stepping up (does he need another daughter - cause I am available - just say'in)

I'm 5'6 as well and we are right at the same weight now. I'm curious where you are clothing size? I tend to carry more weight in my lower half and I don't know that I will be able to get as small as I would like (size 6).

Good for you and going for what you want!!
But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded. ~2 Chronicles 15:7

Faith-
I am a 10/12, I carry more weight in my lower half too and have wide hips and thighs..size 12 is the lowest size I ever was as an adult before I gained the weight (age 18).. The surgeon is going to do some contouring of my hip and thigh area so if I get the TT I would probably be able to get into a smaller size but I cant fathom a size 6!!

Tons of props to dad!

Kristen, thanks for sharing. I'm not close to goal, and I never thought I'd be considering plastics, but with the way my skin is bagging I might be in the coming months. Thanks for sharing your experience with the consult and keep us posted!
