Sleeved July 1st, having pain after drinking

Hey all!!

I am doing extremely well and soooo happy things went smoothly!!

I do seem to have a couple issues though. When I drink liquids, I get a fleeting pain in my upper stomach. Am I taking too big of drinks or something?

Also, I seem to have gas in my tummy all the time. I heard that a sippy cup might help? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks so much! I can't believe I did it!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your surgery! I'm happy everything seems to be going well for you!

I'd absolutely call the doctor's office about the pain when drinking. My doctor had me drink a full medicine cup every 15 minutes. That sort of teaches you how to sip and not gulp. Also, what temperature are the drinks? Sometimes too cold can hurt. I was always the opposite and could tolerate cold better than room temp, but I think I am an exception to that rule.

As far as gas goes, are you on any type of acid reducer? If not, call the doctor and ask what he recommends. I am on Prilosec and it helps a lot.

I wish you the best of luck! We've already got your spot on the bench! :)

Thanks Lisa,

My doc didn't say to drink a med cup every 15 minutes but  decided to try to time it out on my own to help learn how fast to drink. It really takes some practice:) My doc said I should not drink more than 2 oz in 15 minutes. It's hard though to get 64 oz in at the pace. My hubby and I counted it out, and it's 8 hours of drinking per day!! Ha Ha Well, I am trying. I do think warm liquids do go down a little better.

I am on Nexium. It works pretty good but my gas seems to build through out the day. I took some Gas X today. It helped but it seems to be building back up again.

Thanks so much for your post and kind words!

You're very welcome! You'll be able to drink more at a time soon enough! It IS a lot of drinking, and some days I struggle with it. I want to be out enjoying, rather than sitting with my drinks and counting each ounce! lol

Did you try the Gas-X strips? I used those regularly at first! It was like a tasty little treat for me, and it helped with gas. lol

Might be gas left over from the anesthetic. I have to sip too or my tummy protests. If pain persists defintely check with your doc.

The gas may be from the proceedure. I had terrible pain/discomfort  from gas for several days after my surgery. Walking helps. Walk, sip, and repeat... Good luck:)

Congrats on your surgery!

Are you drinking too hot or too cold?  Those temperatures will effect the way your new stomach feels.

For gas, I use Gas-X strips, they really help.

I had much discomfort when swallowing at first. And I still have trouble getting gas up. I can feel the bubble at the top of my stomach but have to work it sometimes to get it up. I swear that is causing discomfort. If that is the gas you could be feeling... I am 8 weeks out and time does improve things.

Thanks everyone for your posts!

I guess it is normal. I thought it was but it is annoying and does make me want to not drink. But... then I think about getting dehydrated and ending up in the hospital, so I go ahead and do it anyway.

Thanks again!
