My NUT is really encouraging RNY?!?!
I know that the sleeve was stage one of the DS for quite a while, but I'm curious about data that confirms that the sleeve ALONE is safe and effective over the long run. What I've read indicates that the second part of the DS is performed 12-18 months after the VSG. Nurse, since you're both in the medical industry and a patient, do you know of any such data? Has anyone come across such information? I'm definitely curious!
Right... duh *facepalm*

For some reason I thought you meant someone that commented in the thread, very confusing...

I am a NUT and I'll tell you that my choice and my recommendation is for the sleeve. Why? Because you don't WANT to have to malabsorb nutrients if you don't have to, and then have to add them back in supplement form. You want to try to get your nutrients from whole foods as much as possible.
With a sleeve you can get all the nutrients you need with no malabsorption, you just have to be careful to eat right and make good choices. Worse case scenario it is not enough for you to have just restriction and you can add on the switch later.
Otherwise you are stuck with an RNY where you no longer malabsorb calories after a few years, but you malabsorb nutrients FOR LIFE. Bad idea. I would see what you can do with a restrictive only procedure first, then add the switch on if needed.
