So what are the permanent changes?

I'm a little over 2 months out and I'm allowed pasta and rice again. I have only had it once, because I know it's not doing anything for my body in the way of fuel or nutrition. My NUT wants us to have brown rice or whole grain pasta instead of white so we get some extra fiber in. Bread is still out as a ton of people have a lot of problems with it. It tends to just get stuck in your stomach and make you miserable. That doesn't mean I'll never be able to have it again, I just need to wait a few months until my stomach is fully better.

That's cool. I don't love bread per say, but it is in so many things. I never realized how hard it is to cut out until I did low carb. Every sandwich, pizza, Mexican food has tortias...... It's easy to work around at home but when we go out, it seems more of a challenge to find things to eat that I still like.

Thanks for the reminder though. I guess I will just have to deal with no bread for a while. I am sure it will be worth it though!

I used to be obsessed with bread, especially tortillas. In the past I have even eaten mac and cheese in tortillas and ramen noodles wrapped in bread. I haven't had any full bread since March, and thus far I'm doing okay. I get a little twinge of want when I see a roll, but that's wearing off and I don't want them like I used to. I did try a tortilla the other day, an enchilada made with corn tortillas, and I actually ended up picking the meat out instead of eating the tortilla, which would have been blasphemy before surgery. It doesn't really add as much to the dish as you would think it would, and I just didn't want or need it, so I left it on the plate.

You'll be so surprised with the changes the sleeve helps you with!

That's funny! Mac and cheese in a tortilla! Ha! Ha! Well, it really doesn't sound that bad now that I think about it. Ha Ha

Yeah, I guess when I did low-carb before, I would order sandwiches and stuff and just eat the good stuff and leave the bread or tortilla. It's kind of awkward sometimes with groups of people but oh well. I guess when I am the skinny one, everyone will think it's the way to go! Ha! Ha!

Thanks for reminding me that I don't have to avoid every food made that way, I can just pick it apart and eat what I want. It's so much more doable that way.

Thanks again!

I know, right! I love how swimming laps makes me feel! I have gotten kind of out of it lately, but that's half of why I swim! It's weird, but to me it feels like I took a shower on the inside! And the energy and up feeling is awesome. I will definitely have to hit it again when I am recovered.

Thanks for the reminder!

- Eat fixed/measured amounts of food that is under your sleeve capacity.

- Don't get into the bad habit of trying to find "Full" that is how we got fat !!!!

- Eat slow and slower towards the end of your meal.

Congrats on asking these questions ahead of time. I normally say to follow your surgeons plan....and still believe that should be the case..... but of late I have seen some very wonky plans or no plans at all.....

Hope this helps...

So I should eat a certain measured amount of food eat time? I am kind of worried about the experimenting with "full". I have read plenty about how that goes. Ha Ha.

Thanks for your advice!

The short answer is YES!  I still measure my food at 2 1/2 years out.  But at first you probably will barely be able to finish an egg and maybe not even that much.  But as you progress then you should weigh and measure your food.  That way you will not be tempted to over eat.  I never just plop a full chicken breast or steak on my plate and eat till full...that to me, is a big no no.  It's best to measure a fixed amount.  At this point I keep my meat to 3 ounces and veggies about 1/3 of a cup.  I still only have tiny bites of bread/rice/pasta just for taste.  Hope that helps!

That is sure helpful to know.

It sounds like even after several years I will be able to get full on very tiny portions. 3 oz of meat and 1/3 cup of veggies doesn't even sound like a good appetizer to me now. Ha Ha

It will be so nice to be able to get full on such a small amount.

Thanks so much for you post!
