Hello everyone my name is Stephanie and I am posting here because I really need some valid information and i'm thinking this will be the forum to get it from.  I would like someone who knows the criteria for OHIP approving a VSG.  I currently have a COLOSTOMY due to having surgery that removed 18 inches of my lower bowel, due to diverticulitis.  Now some people say that my colostomy alone will make getting a VSG definate however as usual I have received conflicting opinions and information.  Please can someone help me here because without losing this weight I can't have my colostomy reversed.

Thanks everyone,

all the best

Steff

I wish I could tell you but I'm from Quebec. The criteria here is very similar to the US; having a bmi over 35 or having 2 co-morbidities present. We also have a 4-7 year waiting list. I wasn;t willing to wait, so I went to Mexico. It was the best decision I have ever made.

Good Luck!

Hi Steff I was done in Ottawa it took about 13 months from first refferal to surgery the basic criteria for ohip to cover sleeve and not rny is that your surgeon feels that you would do better on the sleeve and given your other issues I dont see why it would be  a problem. where in ontario are you the surgeons at the civic in ottawa are brilliant

Don't even think about it. You'll get a sleeve.

I have an ileostomy and was sleeved in Ontario.  I would bet that you won't  have any trouble due to the fact that you probably have lots of scar tissue.  However, I signed for both the RNY and the VSG before going into surgery. . . . . . the team was preparing me mentally for the VSG beforehand.  I wanted the VSG so I wasn't disappointed at all.
