A co worker at work took a course on something and protein drinks, energy drinks and other stuff was brought to their attention.  I am attending the course in a few weeks myself.  It shocked me after hearing this after I spent so much time trying to find one that I liked.

Great!  I just threw out all the protein "shots" I had bought a few weeks ago after reading on here how they were really just boiled cow skins.  Now we are faced with heavy metal poisoning if we consume our protein drinks.  Now what is everyone going to do?  I suppose if we just drink them while we are in the weight loss phase, we might get away with it, but I am really going to try to get off them once I hit goal.  All the more reason to get to goal quickly.

I couldn't use any of the protein drinks. I developed lactose intolerance and a whey protein intolerance post-op. So, just to let you know I never used them, and was able to get my protein in from food sources once I hit the mushy/puree stage in the post-op diet. 4 meals a day, each meal consisting of a minimum of 15gr of protein and VOILA there is the 60gr of recommended protein in our post-op dietary guidelines.

So, you don't have to use protein supplements through your losing stage.

Sweet! Can you give an example of the 4 meals? Our NUT wants us on 80+, but it'd be nice to go down to just one shake vice two.......or down to none!

B- Soft poached egg with 2 laughing cow cheese chunks roughly 14gr of protein
L1- Deli meat with cheese 15-18gr of protein
L2- chicken/tuna/egg salad - mixed with greek yogurt around 20-25gr of protein depending on which one I ate
D1- this was more like a snack I guess by some parameters, but I counted it as a meal, it was typically beef or turkey jerky with more cheese - 12-15gr of protein, or more of one of the salads, or leftovers
D2- the protein from whatever my family ate plus a few bites of the greens typically 2-3oz of meat that gave me the 15-21gr of protein

I relied heavily on turkey pepperoni, hard salami and cheese as well. Chicken/tuna/egg salads were staples in my diet during my losing stage. If I didn't want eggs, I stuck with greek yogurt for breakfast, or leftovers from the night before. I kept frozen individualized portions of chili in the freezer and defrost when I needed a quick and easy 20gr of protein.

Ground meats (beef, turkey, venison) were in my diet almost daily. I would mix it with all sorts of sauces to make it mushier so I could consume more calories/protein grams. I stayed on soft foods for a long time (around 3-4 months) and slowly introduced "solid" meat into my daily intake.

I found beef and scallops to be much easier to digest vs. chicken or turkey. Flank, skirt steak were my favorites. Scallops are the one seafood di****olerate extremely well. I hate most fish dishes, and living on the gulf coast makes that pretty difficult. I do eat mahi mahi and tilapia, but the typical seafood choices such as shrimp, and salmon repulse me.

Right now I am on about 110 grams protein.  I am experimenting a bit.  Has been working.  Do not know how long I will do it, as obviously I have to do it with a super fortified protein shake in the morning---just one, then the rest of the day I get my protein thru healthy food. I wonder what all the docs are going to say if and when they read this heavy metal stuff???   Could put a crimp into their whole post-op routines...............

I don't do shakes either and felt pretty sick when I did.  Even happier now that I get protein from food.

Its important to note that its not for *all* shakes.

Its also important for people to GET YOUR LABS CHECKED.  I could eat MUCH MORE than minimums in dense protein but my body DOES NOT KEEP IT.  My protein labs are way below normal unless I supplement WITH SHAKES.

So, this to say please, please, please, please get your labs done regularly and pay attention.

Also do not just blindly assume all products are the same.

Energy drinks secret energy ingredient is mostly B vitamins, which we do not absorb like normies so that is another thing about energy drinks.

Anyway, just that addition to this PSA.
