Still can't keep it down.
I am 5 weeks out and still can't eat without . I have tried tuna, chicken, even some protein shakes make me gag. The Dr has ordered a upper gi, this week. I wasn't going to go because this is my first week back at work, and I didn't want to take off any more time. I just going to have to get the test done, because I'm so tired of throwing up and being nauseaed. I'm terrified to eat (never thought that would happen). It's like I've gone from one extreme to another. Has anyone else had a hard time eating at 5 weeks out?
I'm so sorry you are going through this and hope that you can get it figured out and fixed. I have never had a problem eating anything pre or post op so have no words of wisdom for you, just wanted to say i hope all goes well with the test and that whatever it is gets resolved quickly for you :o) jeani
I had to stay on mushies for an extra few weeks as my tummy adjusted to food alot slower than most. I would get nauseated and have to lie down. I didn't vomit much, but I knew I couldn't eat more than a bite or two.
For me it was just a matter of time. My tummy finally adjusted to food. I eat whatever I want to eat now.

I'm 14 weeks out. I don't have the nausea, but eating is an effort. I just have no hunger. It's a good thing, but an adjustment. At 5 weeks, it was harder and I did have nausea. It did get better. Most protein shakes make me gag, just to smell them. But, I've tried several and found something that works for me. Frozen banana, 8 oz milk, 2 scoops J-Robb Chocolate. 59 grams of protein and doesn't make me gag. It does take me about 60-90 minutes to sip the whole thing though.
Good luck with the UGI.

Last week's support group there was a woman there who had her procedure the day before mine (April 27) and she had problem with milk yet, nevermind food. The dr had checked her tummy and it was fine but still really swollen. She was told to stay on liquids until the swelling went down and to be patient.
I feel for you. I think its very difficult to stay up beat and motivated when its not working like everyone else. I think you should get it checked "just in case" and it will give you peace of mind.
Good Luck! We are thinking of you.

Hope you find out what is wrong...I am so new post-op, so I am not on mushies yet. Only liquids, so far I haven't thrown up. But I am also afraid to eat sometimes. I like to stick with SF popsicles, almond milk, and the protein shake I know works for me. I don't deviate much yet.
Did you throw up even on the clear or full liquid stage? If not, maybe you can go back a step, until your hear back from the results of the test.

I had a lot of stuff that I was sensitive to at that time still, was eating a lot of beans, mashed potatoes, and thinly sliced lunch meat. Also fruits and vegetables. I probably wasn't getting in as much protein as I should have at that point.
Just make sure you chew everything to death and dont' be afraid to re-visit stuff that previously didn't work or even taste good. Also, I found that if I skipped my prevacid for the day I had trouble eating due to excess stomach acid...have you looked into that possibility?
Good luck, this too shall pass :).
