Very weird question...heartbeat in stomach?
Hi all ~ tomorrow I will be 9 months out and I'm feeling great!!! I've about 95lbs!! Wish I knew how to post pictures because I would post something. I had a really weird question - for the last few months I've been feeling my "heartbeat" in my stomach. Then when I put my hand there, or my husband's hand, we can actually feels what feels like a heartbeat on my stomach. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I don't think it was like this before I lost weight. I've checked online and came across anything from...it's fatal to it's nothing. ... That's the web for ya! lol
I just wanted to see if anything like this is happening to anyone else. ??

It could be a vein or artery that's in a new place that you feel stronger now since you've had surgery. I'd ask your surgeon. Maybe he can give you some guidance. Let us know what you find out.

Hi there:
Congrats on the 95 forever gone pounds.
On the heart beat. If you have gotten pretty thin in the mid section you might actually be feeling one of the large blood vessels, most likely your Aorta. it runs mid-line closer to your back then front, but if you have lost a lot of weight you might be feeling that. When I'm doing ultrasound scanning I can usually feel them pulsing especially around the belly button area sometimes even a bit higher.
Hope that puts your mind at ease.

Congrats on the great loss!
I can't think of anything re: the stomach/heartbeat per se, but it wouldn't hurt to check your blood pressure 1 or 2x/day for the next week or so (you can go to most pharmacies to do this). All I know is immediately post op - until about the 8 or 9 month mark, my blood pressure dropped to perfect. Since that time it's been raging. No idea why - considering weight loss, exercise, quitting smoking & no family history.
Anyway, before I went on meds, I could feel my heartbeat practically everywhere. Hope that's not the case for you, but better to know than to not know!
Good luck!

Ok this could be nothing, just feeling the aorta like the above poster mentioned. But....as an RN a "new" pulsatile feeling in the abdomen should be checked out by a physician. You could have an aneurysm in your aorta. For many these are stable and they live with them every day forever and they never cause any problems. BUT for some (few actually) it is can become a life threatening condition. The difference between the good cases and the bad cases are when your doctor knows about it and monitors it. Usually no big deal, but I would encourage you to have your doctor look and feel it and decide if he wants a CT scan of your belly to verify.
