"older" VSG'rs???

I just had my surgery 3/2/11 and I am 58.

My doctor ordered a lot of pre-surgery testing I and was told I was a good candidate. I thought that I might have more problems because of my extreme obesity (480 lbs).

It tuned out I had no complications.

Recovery, was not too bad. The hardest part the first couple of days was not the walking they made me do in the hospital, but transitioning from laying down to standing up to walk.

Now, five weeks later I believe it is the best decission I have made. I have already lost 53 lbs (22 pre-surgery), I already have some relief from my chronic lower back pain, and I no longer take Diabetes or blood pressure meds

I was a guest speaker at my surgeon's educational seminar this week, and I can tell you that WELL over half (probably 2/3s) of the audience was over 50 and higher. In this day and age you still have 30-40 years left, might as live them as a healthy person...!!!

I was 54 when I had it, 55 now. Lost 100 lbs so far, 52 of those since the surgery. I've had no problems, I can eat anything, just not very much of it. I feel great! I wish the VSG had been around 10 years ago when the Doctor first suggested weight loss surgery. I'm so glad I waited for it. Wouldn't want to re-route my innards, happy just to have some of them removed.

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

I was 59 - that was 2 years ago.  This morning I was out running on the beach.  I hadn't done that in 25 years.
