I finally feel like typing this up..
My experience was pretty good, I just have been very focused on taking care of everything and working on my schedule for getting fluids/protein in. First time I have even turned on my computer since I got home.
My surgery went great, a hiatal hernia was also repaired. I was released in 24 hours. My pain was never above a level 4. I was able to walk and use the bathroom right away. I walked quite a lot in the hospital, all through the night, every time I got up to use the restroom.
When I got home, the worst pain I had was gas and after the good hospital meds wore off. It was a challenge, but not difficult for about 24 hours. My husband has been great. He enjoyed helping me get a shower, LOL. I have had no pain in my incisions.
I feel about 90% recovered now. I took a nice walk outside today. I'm doing well on my fluids/protein and have tried some thinned out food. The Cream of Wheat with SF caramel syrup is pretty good and the instant mashed potatoes thinned out with chicken broth is my favorite. Tastes like ambrosia after water, water, water and protein drinks!
I did not gain much weight from the IV fluids, 3 pounds. They are gone now. I checked for a baseline so I would know what to expect. Otherwise, I am not obsessing. Only concentrating on feeling better and getting it all in. So far, I am not tired or weak. I have not let myself get near to dehydrated.
I feel better every day. I am so, so grateful I was able to have this procedure done. It has gone as well as I could have hoped and I am looking forward to the new me. Thank you for all of the amazing support I have received on this site. You helped get me through the waiting and I know you will help me as I go along. The best is yet to come!
Your recovery and experience sounds smooth like mine. I am so glad to hear this.
I like hearing your walking and feeling good or at least you sound that way to me.
I so remember coming home and trying to write on the pc. It was just exhausting for
my head... so glad you are hear sharing. So what size Bougie did you get?
Do you have any gas or incision pains yet?
Again Congratulations!!!!

Sounds like you are doing great! The heating pad was my best friend the first week home..it really helped with the gas pain that I had in my shoulder..so remember that it might help you if you are having that kind of pain. And keep sipping.....
You are in for such an amazing journey! This has been the best thing that I have ever done for myself...feel so much better!..and you will too very soon! You are right...the best is yet to come!
Good luck!
