I asked the same nurse about taking Prilosec..First she said...you should take it for a month if you have acid reflux or could be up to 6 months for it to regulate your acid.  I said I havent had any acid (acita) at all. I started taking it 5 days before surgery and ever since. She then said...oh well then you can discontinue it.
Do I believe her? She seemed kind of doubtful...This nurse keeps forgetting that I have the sleeve and not the bypass too..I dont see my dr. till April 13th...
I think Im just going to keep taking it till I see the Dr.

I only got acid once the day i had surgery but i was always hungry and people said it wasn't really hunger it was acid,  so i took it for about 5 months but was still hungry,  then i quit taking it and still hungry.    But most expert surgeons advise taking it to protect the new tummy.   Especially if you take any kind of nsaids,  some will tell you not to take them and some say you can take them with the sleeve,  who knows.   Good luck  :o)  Jeani

I just saw my doc and asked when I can get off prilosec and he said to remain for at least 6 months, and I'm glad I did because they put me on stage 4 which has ground meat and I for the first time had heartburn-UGH. I only had about an ounce and it started. I was eating slow too, maybe its too soon for me. So I'll be more cautious with my additions.
