Hi Jill...thanks for your advice.  I'm actually 5 weeks out...not 2. :-)

I've thought more about what I eat and when I say a whole cup of food, it's usually chili, soup, 1/2 cup cottage cheese or yogurt w/granola, chicken breast with some veggies...etc.  So, I guess that's ok.

THANK YOU everyone for your help!!!  I feel SOOOOO much better and much better informed.  I had zero education about VSG in my program and if I didn't have OH as a resource it would be a scary, scary ride.

My Dr used a 34 but I could tell I was eating more than most. On my last visit I told him and he looked at my records and said I had a longer stomach. Most have a 2 and I have a 3. I'm not sure what that means but I do know my longer stomach can hold more. Darn the luck! lol
With all that I'm a little over 3 months out and have lost 48 lbs. Can't beat that!
I guess we have to take the good with the bad. AND bigger bougies or longer stomachs we are still blessed.
Good luck and keep in touch.

Very true, and I do feel blessed today.  Finding out that I have a larger bougie (and from what i've read, i'll bet i have a longer stomach) got me down for a day, but the next day I picked myself back up.  My plan is to be even more diligent than I was before and to stop eating after a prescribed amount of food.  So...finding out about the bougies was actually a good thing cuz I was slipping. :-)

I am almost 5 weeks out and found out two days ago that my surgeon used a 50. He said he would explain more to me on my next visit but that he sews very closely to the bougie whereas a lot of doctors that use a 32 allow a little extra room, therefore making it very close in size. I'm anxious to find out more but I was, at first, freaked out because of the size difference, but the more I read, the less anxious I feel about it. We have to trust our doctors and know that if they are well qualified, they know what they're doing and they are doing the best for our individual situation. Good luck!!

I think you are very lucky indeed.  My surgeon will not do anything larger than a 34.  Although I'm not through arguing for what I think is best for me.  From what I have read the larger the bougie is the fewer long term complications.  As you know you must always eat solid protein first.  However, it would be nice to still have room for quality carbs like vegtables and fruits.  Its hard to get everything nutrition wise you need from pills and supplements and not very satisfying either.  You are doing this for the long haul not a quick fix.  Relax and enjoy your good fortune.  Its not that much difference in size to prevent the loss you are looking for but it should make your life better and easier.
