Hysterectomy versus sleeve
I just got home from my laparoscopic hystserctomy yesterday. Recovery was a breeze and the postop pain isn't any worse than the preop pain. Of course, surgery is scary and I'm afraid of pain. Just wondering for those of you who have had both . . .is the sleeve recovery similar, easier, tougher than hysterectomy? Is pain the same, better, worse?
I know liquids will be tougher, but how about the rest?
Thanks in advance for advice.

The difference for me was I couldn't stand up quite straight after the hysterectomy and couldn't lay on my side after the sleeve. The pain was about the same, just in different spots!
I had my hysterectomy in '89 (removed vaginally) and was in the hospital for three days but had them take out the catheter almost immediately so for both surgeries, I was up and walking a lot within a very few hours. I got more sleep with the sleeve because I had outpatient surgery and was in a nice quiet bedroom that night and got lots of sleep!

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy. I found it a lot easier than my sleeve. However, let me qulaify my answer: 1. I was on a lovely pain pump full of dilaudid with my hysterectomy, I had NO pain medication with the sleeve(only gave me tablets, and I couldn't swallow them); 2. I had my hysterectomy at my thinnest weight, which I was assured would make everything so much easier, the sleeve was at my highest weight, which complicates everything.
Hope this helps!

I had my sleeve on Monday and I've had a hysterectomy, c-section, and double mastectomy. My recovery for all surgeries was pretty quick. For me, I would say that the sleeve is most comparable to the hysterectomy. About the same pain level, just higher up on my abdomen. I walk a little doubled over, but I'm able to do all of the basic stuff around the house. The first day or 2 home, my blood pressure was high because I wasn't taking enough pain meds, so I think the key is take what you need so your body can heal! Sleeve pain was a little different than the hyster because there was gas pain, too, but absolutely nothing unbearable. The liquids are only tough psychologically...food looks and smells good, but knowing that you just can't have it makes it pretty cut and dry! Good luck with your recovery and with the sleeve!
