GOAL WEIGHT?
I know my doctor said that rather than going by the "ideal weight" chart based on height and body frame, he goes by the average weight loss based on VSG statistics.
He said to take the number of pounds you are overweight (in my case 100) x 75% and subtract that number from my current weight to determine my goal weight. So even though the chart says I should weigh 130, my target result from the VSG is 155. Anything less than that would just be a bonus.
In your case, if you started at 277 and the charts say 135, then you are 142 lbs overweight. 75% of that is 107 lbs, so if you subtract that from the 277 it puts you at 170. I know many others who have lost more than 75% of their excess weight, so you'll likely end up at 150.

i agree that you should go for a normal bmi of 25 or below. so not sure what that would be. if you had started as a super high bmi i might think your doctor was right but seems like you could get down to 140 and be fine as you are young. my doc gave me a range of 130 to 150 and i am 5'4. got to 140 and he said stop. i said how bout 135 and he said ok. today i am at 132. figure it will stabilize. i say lose what you can while keeping your protein up. it can be normal to have a little extra weight that is in the form of excess skin that you can't lose except by the knife. i have no idea if 135 is realistic for you as i don't know your frame size and muscle mass but i do know that now is the time to get whatever weight off you can while yo are in your first year. just remember not to sacrifice protein to do it. gl. d
good question. i'm wondering this myself, since the nut's # was way more than i want to be. i think she was going for the 75 percent # as well. i really want to lose 130 from my starting of 260, think it's probably not realistic, but i'm shooting for it!!! your weight loss has been great so far -- go for it!
It's funny,
I chose my goal weight of 160 just because it was a "normal" bmi for 5'8...literally..once i hit 160..my weight loss stalled for about 6 weeks..I am now down to 156... It was almost like my body was sayin..ok beeeetch...you said 160...here ya go! :)
at any rate..ive got plenty more to lose..but if the weight loss stopped tomorrow i'd still be thrilled in my size 8 jeans and med. tops!
I dont plan on setting a new goal..just enjoying every day!

First off, congrats on being at 200!!!!!!!!!!!! That is like my all time biggest goal for myself...I know once i get there I can do anything.
I didn't read everything everyone else wrote, so forgive me if I am repetitive.
I think Dr. Kim's range is great, I would want to be at the lower end of that range (150) if I were your age. My personal goal is 168, but honestly, I want to be out of the 200's, anything lower than that is just, excuse the pun, gravy. LOL!
I think 135 is too small, personally, not just for you, but for anyone who is 5'6". I have been overweight all my life and I am very familiar with the BMI scale since childhood. Honestly, they have lowered it over the years and insurance companies have been part of that reason, if you are "overweight" they can raise your rates or put you in a different class. This is the truth. I remember my weight range for my height being 145-155 in my late teens and early 20's (I am almost 42 now). Now, i am the same height as you and they want me to weigh 135????? Quite honestly, I don't want to be that small.
I would rather focus on the total body look...like, at my smallest I want to be a size 8 (I am naturally curvy and very hippy...not sure how small I will get in pants size) at the most I want to be a size 10/12. I will be completely happy with that. I want to shop in regular stores and just be, well, average!
I don't know what i have to weigh to be that size??? Guess I will find out.
I think you have it in you to lose another 50 pounds. I would go for it, I think you would be pretty frustrated trying to get to 135. Thats just my personal opinion, though. Even though you are young, you are a slow loser (which I KNOW is quite frustrating!!!!)
like me. It stinks cause I know how hard you are working and you have done FABULOUS!!!!
Just my 2 cents, girl!!! Love ya!

I started at 296, am at 170 today and have always been shooting for 135. I am 5'4".
I chose 135 because it is inside "normal" BMI status. My PCP, however, said he'd like me to lose only another 15 lbs. (maximum!).
So I have decided to focus on getting to his goal (155) and decide from there how I look/feel then.
Sometimes I feel like I might be happy with 155 EXCEPT with each passing pound at this point, I notice more horrific skin issues. So...what I might do is get to 155 or 150 and then pursue plastics.
Then I will know if I will want to lose even more post plastics or if it was just all the loose, wobbly, blobby, ugly skin that was making me feel fat.
B**** a recent consult, the surgeon told me to get within 20lbs of ultimate goal before moving ahead w/plastics.
Good luck!
