How is this possible?
Yeah I asked my doctor if I had found this out earlier, would I have needed the surgery. He said probably not. But I have read that for a lot of PCOS patients, wls is recommended. I dont' regret it at all though. I feel like it fixed my brain.
I'm glad I found out I had it b/c I do want to have kids in the future. He's a fertility specialist as well, but hopefully I won't have problems.
Yep, I had diarrhea every day on metformin. But like i said, I was not eating enough back then. On the times that I ate more than others, I didnt' get as sick.
I have actually been on a stall since the actos, and I'm pretty sure they're related.
I'm glad your sister knows about PCOS. I went to the gyn for irregular periods and obesity, 2 symptoms that my specialist would have used to diagnose me. All I got were birth control pills at age 15, and Meridian, a weight loss pill that only made me depressed and lose 20lbs so I quit it.

Now that you say he's a fertility specialist, it makes sense you got treated. They are the most educated about PCOS, insulin resistance, and metformin. It's a crime that endocrinologists don't do as well. My sister learned about it from an interest in infertility and PCOS.
It has taken a combination of surgery and metformin to allow me to keep the weight off. Without both, I would be gaining. If I had been started on metformin treatment by age 10, when the symptoms were starting to become obvious, maybe I could have avoided the surgery. I'm old enough that I was given steroids way back when at age 18. Not only did it not help, it turned a small weight problem into an enormous one.

So, yesterday, I took 500mg of metformin with brunch, 500mg with snack, and then that night with supper, I just said "oh what the heck" and took the other 1000mg.
I was fine.
Today I took 1000mg with lungh and 1000 with dinner.
So far so good.
This morning I took a diuretic. Peed all friggen day long.
I use my wii fit to get accurate measurement, but I only let it "save" on saturdays. So yesterday it said I was at +9 from my last official weigh in. Today it said +4.
Ok so it was water weight...5lbs worth! Crazy huh. And I wonder how much the metformin helped with that. I dunno but I'm pretty convinced that metformin helps.

when you eat carbs, they are stored in your liver as glycogen.... your body requires water to store glycogen, so for every gram of carbs you eat, your body will retain 2.7 grams of water just to store the glycogen...

I'm on Actos and Byetta for diabetes. Actos causes weight gain. As my PCP said at my last appointment "If you're gaining weight, then you know it's working." Thanks a lot, doc.
The Byetta on the other hand slows digestion and makes you feel full. So I've been able to either lose a little or maintain.
I started on metformin, but the diarrhea only got worse with time. Tried the extended release metformin and only got worse with time. Tried Janumet (which also has metformin) and didn't help. Other folks take metformin without a problem, so that's something you just have to do some trial and error with.
