How could i gain 8 lbs in one weekend? How is that even possible?
I went to my mom's for halloween, and yes I wasn't trying very hard. Ate candy, didn't avoid carbs. But it wasn't excessive. How is this fair???

Water weight.  Eat low carb for the next few days and I guarantee you will lose those pesky 8lbs.
Plus an additional 42.2lbs pre op! Starting weight 300lbs.

Yeah that's what i've been doing. The only carb I had were beans and now i'm thinking that I probably shouldn't have had those hah.

Carbs increase your insulin level, which tells your body to store calories instead of burn them. Some will be water weight, but this could be a sign that you are insulin resistant.

Are you taking metformin?  Doctors often take their patients off of it after surgery.  They should be testing fasting insulin before taking people off.

My period serves as a pretty good indicator of how good my level is.  Although I had lowered my dose after surgery, my periods got further apart.  When I went back to the pre-surgery dose, they returned to pre-surgery timing.

I got diagnosed after surgery. He put me on metformin at first but I couldn't eat enough with it so I always got sick. He finally switched me to Actos and I'm on that now.

I just got off the birth control pill. I had a period. Then I skipped one. Then I had one. Then I had oen 3 weeks later (just finished it)

What do you think that means?

It takes time for your body to establish a rhythm after getting off the pill.  So it probably is too soon to say for sure.

If your doctor diagnosed you after surgery, you have a great doctor.

You might want to consider trying metformin again in the future.  Actos doesn't have the same record for weight loss.  But if you are doing well, I'd stick with it for a while.

Insulin resistant people can gain weight faster than any normal person should.  It's not fair.  But at least with a VSG, you have some defense.

My weight loss definitely slowed down after switching to actos. I think I might want to go back on metformin til i hit my goal. I'm eating a little more now than I was at the beginning of course, and that may have been part of the problem. I went to a PCOS specialist after my surgery b/c I thought I had it. And I did. He showed me the sonogram of my cysts and everything. I think I will call him about the metformin tomorrow now that you mention it. I'd like to try again.

I'm sure you know that metformin can cause nausea and diarrhea.  Most people do adjust to it though.  The ER version is supposed to be easier than the normal version.

Congratulations on making sure you are getting the proper care.  So many doctors are misinformed about this that it makes it hard for people that assume their doctor is doing the right thing all the time.

Talking to you is refreshing.  A lot of times when I talk to people here about PCOS and insulin resistance, they don't bother getting checked because their doctor tells them not to worry.  But my gut says that if many of us had gotten treatment for insulin resistance when we were young, we might never have gained so much weight to begin with.

My sister is an ob/gyn and has tremendous success treating teenagers with metformin.  I hope the word spreads and proper treatment becomes more common.
