Probably a long shot, but hoping for a breakfast solution...

I have found myself in a big rut these past couple weeks. Some mornings all I am having is my coffee with a scoop of protein powder mixed with the creamer. However, I usually go exercise at the Y most mornings and when I don't have something to eat in addition to my protein coffee I am ravenous by mid-morning with stomach cramping and everything. That said, I have always had breakfast issues because of my dislike of eggs and dairy. Here are my main issues:

PROBLEMS:
1. I am NOT an egg person, never could stomach the taste or smell of eggs.
2. I can't eat meat in the morning, just won't go down.
3. Dairy & I are not the greatest friends, so things like yogurt or cheese are not a good solution. As a result, I don't like the taste of most dairy products or dairy product wanna-be's, so lactose free, soy, almond or whatever stuff aren't things I would eat anyways.
4. I am usually on the go in the morning, so I need something quick - grab & go. I was grabbing a RTD shake or a protein bar, but now that it's winter, I don't want a cold beverage and I know protein bars are not the greatest solution.

Solutions? I am at a loss. I have been thinking about it, and I thought maybe I could make some sort of home-made version of a protein bar that isn't super high in carbs and doesn't have all the bad stuff in the store bought ones.

Anyone have a good recipe for a home-made protein bar? Or maybe a suggestion for something that isn't meat, egg or dairy based (haha - I know that isn't likely LOL).

Can you handle cereal?  Kashi has some cereal that offers 13 g of protein per serving....not sure what the serving is.
Why isnt a protein bar a good option?
Have u tried powdered milk?  It has protein in it too.

I looked at the Kashi, and the carbs are on the high side. As for the bars, not only are they high in carbs, but they have all sorts of additives - even corn syrup! Even though I have been eating them, I am still losing about 2 pounds a week, but I really want to maximize my loss right now and I know carbs will get in the way of that.

I cannot emphasize how badly I wish I could eat eggs, Eggface has a ton a recipes on her blog for various "bites" that are like little muffins made from eggs and cheese etc that would be a perfect on-the-go breakfast. Sadly, the smell of eggs alone makes me want to retch.

They do have a brand of protein bars that are low in carbs 13-15 grams..They are called Supreme Protein (carb conscious) and they have different flavors..i like the peanut butter and the cookies n cream.  they have about 180-210 calories and from 7-9 grams of fat..but i don't get a lot of fat during day so if i have one of these i don't worry too much.  it has 15 grams of whey isolate protein.  My NUT says i am not supposed to have these until 6 months out..not sure why but i can't do 3 shakes a day..i get so sick of them.  And these taste good and i feel like i am having a treat.
I am having a breakfast dilema (sp?) also ..i am sick of everything ...soo but i still manage to do it..haha!

Ditto on the Supreme Protein bars!  They also have one that has pretzels in it.

I think you need something to eat before you work out, don't you?  I just don't have the energy for good exercise if I don't eat first.

I really don't have any words of wisdom,  I too am not a breakfast person.  Not for the same reasons, it is just I don't eat breakfast.

Today I bought some oatmeal called Oat Fit,  that has 100 calories, 0 gm sugar and 4 gm protein, but it has 18 gm carbs,  that is really more than I like at any one time.  I try to stay between 20 and 30 per day.  I just needed to change things up a bit.

Sorry I am not much help but there you go.

I hear ya, pre-op my breakfast was almost always a piece of toast with peanut butter on it or oatmeal. Usually the toast (easier to eat in the car). Now, ugh. At a loss.

There is no law that says you have to have breakfast food for breakfast. Whatever appeals to you for any other meal will work for breakfast. You may also find that like myself you cannot eat early in the morning. If your protein coffee gets you through your workout then have brunch may be for you. Don't get so hung up on the breakfast food.

Good luck and God bless!

Very true - this gives me something to think about tonight. Maybe a little soup or something like that would work.

Why does it seem that all the "grab and go" choices are carb loaded? Breakfast bars, toast, bagels etc - carbs, carbs and more carbs!

I am not a breakfast person at all....never have been....

But....for a while I was on an eggbite kick...I added different things, ground beef/sausage/cheese and spiced it up...and they didn't taste like egg....

Also...there is no rule that says you have to have breakfast things for breakfast....make some cauliflower pizza or just make a little extra at night and reheat in the morning....

I make a protein bar....it is pretty good, I have them in the fridge and my husband snacks on them too.

or
http://www.livestrong.com/recipes/protein-bar-2-4/

to the first one I added about 2 tbsp of caramel sugar free davinci syrup, a cap full of coconut extract....but you can really just stick a finger in it and decide how you like the taste....both are similar recipes, but with what I had at home at the time....they are pretty good....and you can totally play with the ingredients, add some pumpkin puree for a pumpkin flavor, add different flavor protein powders.....they work...they taste and feel like doughy brownies....a little dry, but taste is good...
