OMG it hurts.  Things to avoid:  low calorie diets (!), red meat (protein!)  I get tired of chix and fish.

Um, seems to me that others have had this problem but I don't recall seeing any threads about it.

Trust me, you DO NOT want this!  My foot is throbbing.  This is more pain than surgery!

Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

I had a horrible flare-up over the weekend.  Just started hurting from out of nowhere.  I had to drug-up on advil & hang my left foot off of the bed just to be able to sleep.  Drink lots of water and help flush everything out.  Also, you might want to look into some black cherry extract or see your doc for a prescription.

Current weight: 170 lbs.

Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.

Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet.  Start date 9/13/10.

I read that cherries can help.  The doctor put me on Allopurinol, but that's to prevent, not to help with the pain.  I'm calling the doctor again in the morning.  My entire foot is throbbing.  Not sure I'm going to be able to sleep tonight.  My husband gets this occasionally and I can now respect how much pain he was in.  I thought he was just being a big baby.  Not!   I drink plenty of water, but I've been trying to drink even more.

My Old Man has gout. I work in health care so I have seen it a lot. Stay away from shellfish and brocolli for a while as they are evil, liquid gel advil works better for the pain than anything else and I wi**** goes away soon. Keep your foot higher than your heart when ever you can. Big sympathetic hugs

Advil is an nsaid, so you may want to avoid. Not sure what your Dr. has said about them. but colchicine is a non steroidal med that is wonderful for gout. My husband uses it, as after a transplant he also, can not use nsaids. Good Luck.

It is my understanding that NSAIDs are fine for VSGers. I use naproxin regularly for my periods.
Has your surgeon said to stay away from nsaids?

My Surgeon does not recommend them. The OH home page has an article "medications after Bariatrics". Co author is Dr. Schauer whom one of my surgical group trained with. Dr Schauer is supposedly one the foremost pioneers in Bariatrics. As we all know every Dr. have there own set of guidelines.

I'm going to call the doctor this morning and I'll ask about the colchicine.  Thanks!

I feel for you, I got it about 3 or 4 months after surgery.  Intense pain!!
Luckily I have managed with water and eating cherries.  Good luck.
