Medical Alert Bracelet

This is a question for those that are further out.  I was on the BE.com website and saw a link for a company that sells medical ID bracelets.  I was wondering if anyone has gotten one since their surgery.  Since they can be engraved with up to five lines of information, I was wondering if this was something I should be considering to alert medical personnel to the fact that I have had this type of procedure along with my other medical allergies that I have.  I say medical allergies, I'm allergic to two types of penicillin that give me hives.  That's about all I have.  Any advice or anyone have one?

There is absolutely no reason to have a Medical Alert because of a VSG.  Once you heal, your stomach is totally normal, just smaller.  There is no medical procedure that would be a hazard, the staples do not affect MRI's or anything else, etc.

My doc's PA got the Gastric Bypass done 4 years ago. He wears a medical ID bracelet. I asked him he thought I needed one and he said he absolutely recommends it for anyone that has bariatric surgery.

I don't think that I would ever get one, but my surgeon says that I would never be able to have an unguided NG tube due to the sleeve. I figure if I am ever in that situation...hopefully the er doc would figure it out.

That is what they told us in my bariatric class, they said if we get it just make sure we put "no blind NG TUBE" because it can puncture your stomach specially if you are in an early stage and got in an accident and unconscious. But when i ask my doctor he said i don't have to and it's more on RNY patients that will need it.

I got one immediately after surgery and haven't taken it off since. If they blindly "tube" you, they are likely to poke a hole in your stomach. My doc STRONGLY recommends them. It would also be beneficial since you have allergies.

I strongly recommend you get one.
