Where to buy Biotin?

Just wondering if you can buy Biotin off the drug store shelves or do you need a dr to perscribe it. I live in Alberta, Canada and I haven't seen it anywhere. Also what's the most common dose to take?

I just bought a bottle of Biotin 1000 mcg at WalMarts. I read that you should take 5 mg (5000mcg) per day for hair loss. So I'm taking 5 of the 1000 mcg tablets to get my 5 mg daily. The bottle I bought had 150 tablets so my bottle will last 30 days.

I get mine @ Vitamin Shoppe. They are small 5 mg tablets. Vitamin Shoppe has a web site.

This has really helped my hair!

I'm taking Spring Valley - Super Potency Biotin it's 5,000 mg per pill and it's in a clear capsule. We got it at Walmart. HTH!!

Thanks everyone, I found some today at Shoppers Drug Mart and it was on sale for $6.49. I'm not due to have surgery until October but i want to start it early. I also have PCOS so i've been loosing my hair for a while hopefully it'll help.

my surgeon says 5 milligrams for it to be useful. note many brands come in microgram tablets or caps. i have purchased it at drugstores but found the right sized capsule at the health food coop. and cheaper too. D

I subscribe to Consumer's Lab.com and they do independent studies on various meds and supplements. Puritan's Pride consistently meets approval.
