Extreme vaginal itching!!

Sorry about the sensative subject, but I am going to go crazy.!!! Ever since surgery (06/02/2010) it has gotten worse! No sign of infection, no discharge, just vaginal itching on and around the labia. I have read that lack of vitamins can cause this type of itching. I was just wondering if this is a common side effect? I have not been doing well with my vitamins, so this would make sense, but GEEZ!!  On the good side, I have lost almost 32 lbs since surgery!!  I am a slow loser....and the scale is kinda stuck, which I know is normal. I just continue watching what I am eating. I have not even exercised yet. Anyway, I am glad I had the sleeve. It was fun taking all of my fat cothes to work and let the ladies there fight over my 26/28 size clothes!  I am certain I will never be that size again! I am now in a 20/22 sizes. Thanks to the people that support this board and this site. I have relied on it everyday for peace of mind.

Thanks

I wouldn't call 32 lbs in 2 months a "slow loser". Give yourself credit where credit is due.

Can't help you on the itching, but I would definitely make sure you get your vitamins and all your fluids in every day.

Have you tried a little over the counter vagisil to see if it helps with the itching? Since it's made to be used 'in that area', it shouldn't do anything to aggravate the itching. If worse comes to worse call your surgeon or PCP and ask. I'm not post surgery yet and can't help really with that question.

Congratulations on your weight loss. You're doing great!

Honestly,,

If you think it could be because of Vitamin deficency.you should really post on DS forum as they are the Masters of vitamins .The folks there have great unbeleiveably great knowledge on vitamins.

Probably do a basic lab test to see any defi****ncies. But please do post it on DS forum you ll get help very quickly

Not that it helps, but I had almost a straight year of monthly yeast infections after getting my sleeve.  I would get a prescription to treat it every month, and it would come back the same time the next month.  It really sucked.  We tried a number of different prescription remedies because the OTC stuff wasn't really getting rid of them.  The doctors didn't have a solid answer why this was happening.  My personal guess is that it had to do with all the changes happening in my body as the weight came off.  Although I don't know 100% what finally resolved them, I think starting to take a good quality probiotic daily helped a lot.  Once I started doing that for about 2 months straight, the yeast infections mysteriously stopped.  Haven't had one now in over 6 months.  Which may not seem like much, but after almost a year of misery, I'll take what I can get.

The other "good" side effect of the probiotics is that it seems to help with constipation, which I struggled with after my sleeve.  I wouldn't say that it's a perfect cure, but things have been much better with the probiotics.

One more random thought: you may have to try several different probiotics to find the right one for you.  I tried one from Wal-Mart which did nothing, and then I tried 3 different ones from Trader Joe's before I found the one that works best for me.  I found that I was having to take so many of Trader Joe's cheapest ones that it was more cost effective to buy the next grade up.  Then I tried to logic out that the most expensive ones would be even better...but those totally made me constipated.  Go figure.  So now I take 2 of the mid-grade probiotics each day (I think it's $5.99 for a bottle of 50 tablets)...and I have zero issues with yeast infections and minimal issues with constipation.

Anyway, hope that wasn't TMI.  But I figure I'd at least share since I've totally been there.  Good luck!

Cheers!

Could it be yeast detox, I mean before our diets had so much yeast if you were a bread eater and at some point our bodies stop being able to metabolize.....

I would check with your gyno and see if you can't get some cream....

If they used a catheter could it be a reaction to the "cleaning" solution they rubbed down there before inserting cath?

I'm glad I don't have that side effect, keep us posted on what/how your problem gets solved...

This happened to me!! After surgery, every month right before my period I got a yeast infection - four months in a row. And my period was every 4 weeks (every 5 weeks is normal for me). However, no yeast infection the 5th month and my cycle was 5 weeks again.

I was really starting to wonder WTF!?
