I have esophogus cancer and the cancer surgeon wants the records sent to him about the gastric sleeve so he can work around the sleeve for surgical purposes. He asked questions like what blood vessels were there and about the actual size. I had this done with dr almanza and have tried to get in touch with the coordinator to possible get my records. There is nothing wrong with the sleeve, he just has to know how to work with it as far as feeding tubes for nutrition and possible removal of the entire stomach to get rid of the tumor in the esophogus. I have no idea how to go about this and if anyone can offer suggestions I would appreciate it, Again, the VSG was done perfecftly it is the rest of me that is falling apart.

I'm also so sorry to hear that you have this problem.  Google G-Tube and J-Tube.  You will probably need the J tube which is no big deal, just placing the feeding tube in another location.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing-sending a little prayer up for you right now!

Have you asked if any of your local surgeons do esophageal cancer also do WLS?  My Dr is well known in hiatal hernias, abdominal hernias, and WLS- he was the one that suggested the sleeve -IN ADDITION- to the other surgeries he was doing which will be nextr thursday.  I think you can research online in your area for Dr who have either sat in on surgery - watched videos of sleeves or have been trained in YOUR area of needs.  I am sure your oncology surgeon is reseaching as we speak- but consider looking for a doc that has had someone like you before. Laurie I am praying for you- medical advancements in the field of esophageal cancer have come a long way. Its exciting time for you to undergo such a test because of these advancements.  They should be of great comfort to you.  I am having similar issues- ans family members have barretts esophagus so I some what understand.  By the way our lil tummy helps you in the long run- less food going down less food required and truthfully this is why my surgeon recommended it along with all the esophageal surgeries he is doing this 7/1.  Hugs, Terry

I'm so sorry to hear of your recent news.  My thoughts are with you Laurie...

"I had this done with dr almanza and have tried to get in touch with the coordinator to possible get my records."

Why hasn't Dr. Almanza's office complied with your request of your records?  They're your records and everyone has a right to have their own copy of medical treatment and procedures done.  If you didn't sign a Release of Information form with his office, contact them and request one be sent to you ASAP.  FIll it out and return it, making sure you save a copy for yourself.

I'm not sure where Dr. Almanza practices, but if he's in MX, they might have other policies to follow.  But nothing can be done unless you're able to contact and communicate with them.

Keep your head up and keep trying!  Hope all works out well!

Maria

Laurie,

I too am confused why the doctor hasn't provided you with the surgical report, but stay persistent because sometimes doctors' offices move at a snail's pace!

Now with that said, I wanted to encourage you about the esophogeal cancer. My father was diagnosed with it in 1990 at the age of 65. He first sought treatment in our hometown of Indianapolis. When they did not treat it agressive enough, he came to stay with me in Houston and went to the world famous MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was successfully treated and lived well up into his 80s when basically he passed of old age and NOT cancer. I just wanted to concur that they have many new successful treatments for that type of cancer. Keep us up to date. Thinking and praying for your rapid healing! Sincerely,

Revision to Gastric Sleeve June 10, 2010 with band removal same day after five years of being banded. Loving my life so much more with the sleeve!

I just heard from Louise the coordinater  for dr almanza. She was very compassionate and helpful. She assured me that she will get all the answers to any question the surgeon has about the sleeve and the procedure.
