One year at Goal, I LOVE my new life!
Aloha All-
As with many long timers, I do not get on OH as much as I used to. It was a HUGE source of support, information, and giggles (and, yes, let's be honest, sometimes WTFs?????!!!). But I appreciated hearing long term success stories so I'm sharing mine.
I am almost 2 years out from surgery, and now a year at goal. Gone are my hypertension meds, CPAP machine, antidepressants, pre-diabetes and 5XL clothes. Present are muscles, energy, a new size 4-6 wardrobe, and an optimism that when 50 rears its head this year, I'm not intimidated by it, not one bit!
Maintaining has been truly effortless. I follow the rules of protein first and get my water in daily- and no, my stomach has not stretched out at all. A half cup of Greek yogurt, 2 strawberries and a tablespoon of granola stuffs me....and to naysayers who tell me "That's all you're eating???" ...I have a ton more money from my tiny food budget to spend on clothes, vacations, and personal trainers! I never feel deprived because I can eat whatever I want, just in smaller quantities - I don't feel like this is a diet, just a cleaner way of eating without fast food and refined processed junk. I eat 6-8 times daily and get my cardio and strength training in because I enjoy it, not because I have to do it. It's amazing how much fun exercise is when you can actually move around without pain, unemcumbered by 200 lbs of excess baggage. Sheesh, no WONDER I hated it before.
To those of you on the fence about surgery, I urge you to finish your homework and stop sitting on the sidelines - it is SO much more rewarding to truly live life, and not sit by merely existing. To my one in a million husband who told me we'd find the money to pay for this, and has been with me every step of the way from 130 to 230 to 330 and all the way back down again, I say Thank You a zillion times over for giving me my life back.
Be well, get that protein in, and move your boda! XOXOLori

Wow Lori you are inspiring! As a 58 year old, I do wonder if I'll lose as much as I would like, because as we all know, the older we get, the harder it is to lose. But I can't help but think that the ability to exercise will offset that. At this point, I'll be happy with anything below 199. I really don't remember how long it has been since I was in onederland. Too many years to count. So if I get to 199, I will have107 pounds gone, and will be healthier and happier. The 10 years between us in age can make a huge difference in success. But I'm going to work this tool like there's no tomorrow! As of this morning, I'm down 47 pounds. Yay me! Only 60 pounds to onederland. That just seems sureal.
Thanks for posting your experiences.
