What is a stricture?

I am just curious.  I have seen mostly explanations as they relate to the RNY and the stoma.  How can we have a stricture with the VSG and what are the symptoms?  Thanks y'all!

Not sure about the symptoms, but a sticture can occur if the tubular sleeve gets a twist in it.

A stricture is basically scar tissue that can develop from any surgery and it gets food caught around it and stops it from going down etc.

I developed a stricture at about a month out.  Scar tissue built up between my esophagus and my stomach and it made it so fluid and food could not pass.

It felt like a heavy lump in my chest, and eventually I would have to throw up.  When I did, the food was clearly undigested.  Eventually I became dehydrated.

They repair it by doing an endoscopy and dilating the stricture with a baloon.  It's pretty simple, and I felt better right away.

In about 20% of cases the stricture needs more than one dilation.

Thank you so much for the explanation!  I think I first saw something about a VSG and stricture in one of your posts.  I hadn't really worried about it until then because I didn't realize it pertained to us...just thought it was a stoma/RNY thing.  I am soooo ready to be a few months out so I can quit worrying about complications...I mean I don't obsess over them but they are always in the back of mind.  It is also probably because I am doing so well that I think it is too good to be true and surely something will go wrong.  Yes, I am crazy! lol  Thanks again and have a wonderful day!!
