Giving up the scale. Yep. I'm doing it.

I'm only two weeks out.  So in the past sixteen days, I've lost 25 pounds.  I'm thrilled with that!   But I've read about so many of you who have tried to prepare yourself for a stall and it still hit hard emotionally.
So....no more scale.  I  have a two month post op with my surgeon, and I'll wait to see how much I lost at that time.
Don't get me wrong...I'll be trying on clothes like crazy so I'll still know how I'm losing.  But I don't want to obsess on a number.  I want to do what my doctor and nutritionist have told me to do and have confidence that my sleeve is working!!!

LOL Sharon, you're too cute!  Congrats on giving up that scale.  You have more intestinal fortitude to do that than I do!  I think I'm gonna be one of the obsessive ones, weighing every morning when I get up after I have surgery.

But, I wanted to see you posting about your losses, don't know how I'm gonna be able stand waiting over a month to see how much you've lost!!! LOL  But, that's just me being selfish ;-)  You do what you've gotta do girly :-)

I think that's a great idea! People drive themselves crazy the first few months wondering why the losses are so uneven. So much better to just follow the rules, and relax!

Kudos to you for your willpower.  After hitting an early stall myself (lost 15lbs first 10day, nothing since), I've stopped hopping on the scale daily.  Now I just participate in the Monday weekly weigh-in on here.  It has been a bit tough emotionally, so I commend you on taking a proactive step to better control the emotional rollercoaster.

At least show us some cute photos of all the new clothes you fit in each stage!

I think weighing in once per week is the most anyone should do during the losing phase (more times is understandable when figuring out maintenance). If you can't stick to once a week then kudos for kicking the scale out of the house! It can be detrimental to our psyche.

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.

I am trying to only weigh once a week and only measure (with my handy tape measure) once a month. The tape measure blew me away when I measured on my one month out. I can't wait for the 2 month measure. Good luck on keeping the scale demon penned up. I sometimes have to literally run from the bathroom so I do not fall victim to that particular folly.

Good Luck! I felt the same way you did and was strong about my conviction until my 6 week check up. I was so surprised at how much I lost at the Dr. Appt that I ran out and purchased my scales that day. Now I have a love hate relationship with the "scale monster"........ and the STALLS are soooooo sucky, and yet I step on the monster every morning, praying to see a smaller number then the day before........

Best of Luck to you!

I think it's the best idea!  I plan on doing the same thing.  I have already found scale sitters for my two scales.  I figured I'd drive myself crazy if I keep them.  I'm hoping I can hold out for a few months, but I have a feeling I'll be seeking out a scale long before then.  :)

I just wanted to say that during the losing phase (and only when you know you are losing well) that this would be ok.

The research is pretty clear though, that the patients who maintain their weight loss the best weigh themselves once a day.  This prevents you from regain where 5-10lbs just 'sneaks' back up on you.

Also, if you struggle to lose the weight, sometimes it can be due to hormonal issues or a miscalculation in caloric intake.  If you don't have a clear idea of where you are at in terms of weight loss, than it can be harder to figure out when you have a problem and how to best deal with it.

That said - I think its smart during the early weight loss days not to obsess about the amount of weight lost!

Hugs,
Mel
