Does the VSG work for grazers?

Does the VSG work for grazers? Would anyone categorize themselves as being a grazer pre-op?

I snack throughout the day and rarely eat a big meal. I'm wondering if the VSG would do anything for me at all.

To be honest with you I don't think any of the WLS work for grazers.  I was never a volume eater, but I ate constantly because I wanted to, I guess???  But I can tell you that now, I'm not very interested in food.  The part of the stomach they cut away is the part that produces the hormone gherlin that makes you feel hunger.  I really never feel hunger, so if I am having a super busy day, I can forget to eat.  Now that is amazing to me!  So, it has worked for me!

Keep reading on this forum....you will learn a lot.

Good luck in making the right decision for you.

Brooke... you say it doesn't work for grazers, but then you say you used to eat all the time and now you have a BMI of 22? It sure sounds like it worked for YOU!!!

Yes, I guess I kinda went full circle with that one.  I guess cause  I never considered myself a grazer, but I guess I really was!

What ever I was, or am now..This surgery has saved my life!  I am so glad I got to have "do-overs" with a new baby tummy.  I promise to keep it safe, small and healthy this time!

Good Luck!

Contrary to what people are writing here... I do get hungry, though it's not the same feeling as pre-surgery.

I exercise a lot and find that I must coordinate my exercise with  mealtimes so I have enough fuel to get through the workout.

In addition to my 3 meals I am usually having a protein bar, hard boiled egg or cheese stick, maybe some fruit. Sometimes I'll have a fourth meal...

I would say no!  Not if you think you will eat like you do now.  You need to have a life style change.  You need to make a commitment to eating differently and exercise.  The sleeve is not magic it's a tool.   Yes I ate all the time before surgery but nothing taste as good as slim feels.  I'm commited to a healthier me!  I'm worth it and so are you...  Annie

Hi Annie... The thing is, I eat because I'm hungry. Would I be any less hungry after the VSG? I know the Ghrelin decreases after the surgery, but would that really be enough?

Bottom line is I'm no good at starving myself. I eat healthy food when I snack, but I do eat. I average about 2400 calories per day, anything less and I am HUNGRY.

I was always hungry too; always hungry; now I forget to eat. There are people here who were grazers, ate large meals, or binged. I did all three. I still feel like grazing sometimes, maybe from habit,  but it's a few bites of this or that, and I may well need the calories because I can't each much at meals.

Clara... I wonder how long that "forgetting to eat" phase lasts? I hear that from a lot of recent post-ops. Sounds like heaven to me, but I guess it wears off at some point and that's when it gets tough?
