Eating "Food" Too Soon?!?!!
Hang in there Kathy. I feel the same way about food. Dr. Foote did my VSG on 2/10/09. I, like you, have the head cravings. I have two small children whom I prepare meals for. It is so difficult to not just pick up a few bites off of their plates, like the old days. I am so tired of my shakes and soups. I don't even care if I eat. My 2-week post op appointment is Thursday. I can hardly wait to hear the words "you can now have mushies".
With that said, I don't want problems healing either. We don't have time for problems, especially ones I cause myself. What gets me past these difficult times? I leave the kitchen. Sometimes I leave the house. I have plans each night this week to get out of the house and away from food. It makes things a little easier on me. I went back to work last Thursday and work is a great distraction from food : )
You will be in my thoughts these next several days until your 2-week post op appointment. For your health, no more meats, etc.. If you can't find something to help you past the moment, call Grand Health Partners and talk with one of the nurses. You can e-mail me. Write a letter. Write the first chapter of a book about you and your journey. Do anything. By the way, I liked looking at recipes too. However, I found it became too difficult because it only made me crave food more. I refuse to look at any more recipes until I can actually begin making them.
Best of luck to you and your recovery.

Just hang in there Kathy...even though you were on a pre-op diet, you are still breaking a lifetime of overeating, carb addiction and food issues. It is hard but it does get easier!

Four months until you can have a scrambled egg?
Each doctor/program appears to be a bit different. I was on full liquids the day I left the hospital, and was on pureed foods within a week. I could eat scrambled egges (soft scrambled) as soon as I was on purees.
You need to be very careful what you put in your stomach because you do NOT want to over stress your staple line. The last thing you need is to "pop" a staple. Then you would have a medical emergency on your hands.
I can't help but wonder why you do not trust your doctors judgement? If you are deviating from his advice so soon, what is going to happen further down the line? Is food so important to you that you will do anything to get it down?
Stop and think before you sucumb to cravings. "Is this the route I really want to take?"
It is giving in to our cravings that got all of us here. We all NEEDED this surgery, because we either could not, or would not, control our intake. We all made the choice to have this surgery, so we could live a much healthier life.
You CAN do this. Don't let food control YOU. You can control your intake.

Honestly? Yes, sometimes. I akin it to the cravings of a drug addiction.
I have to be very aware through journaling etc., when I'm most suseptable and what situations trigger the cravings. Fatique and lack of companionship from DH in the evening certinaly contributes. He doesn't get home till 7 PM or later and by the time we're done with dinner, dishes done and he helps both our 11 and 12 year olds with homework, he's ready to crawl into bed and I don't get any of his time. I sincerely appreciate that he spends so much time with the kids, I do resent that he finds it difficult to budget his time so that I get some of it too.

The others have just about said it all, and Lori said it best...one chance to heal right.
Just know that a lot of your hunger issues will fade as the level of grehlin wanes from your system. I noticed a huge reduction in hunger by week 3. Now I have a minimal hunger once a day, if I haven't eaten in a few hours, but it's NOTHING like it would have been pre-surgery. It's so minimal, I can ignore it if I need too (at work, away from home, etc..)
HANG IN THERE, it gets SO much easier as you go, and eventually your swelling will reduce so you'll be able to eat a little more normally which really increases the head satisfaction. At least once a day I can take in almost half a cup of food now. Prior to month five I could barely take in a fourth cup in one sitting.
