There are so many low inpact workouts that you can do. Water areobics is easy on most people. How does your Dr feel about it? Congrats on the 13lbs!

Hi Susan,

First, congratulations on 13 pounds lost since mid-January.  That's about the same loss that I have had in the same period, with approx the same calories post-sleeve.  I will just say that sticking to a lower calorie plan is much much easier with the sleeve and without the hunger.

As to exercise, I highly recommend Aquarobics.  I take a class 3 times a week at the local Y.  It is mostly older women, and we don't do anything too strenuous, but it is amazing the difference it makes in terms of ease in the water vs. out.  Gradually you will increase muscle which will help your metabolism and help to counter the effects of some of your meds.  I also find, as do many others that I have met, that the aches and pains are actually eased, not increased, by the water exercise.  The Y that I go to actually has a class especially for people with arthritis.  You may want to look into something like that as well.

Good luck in your journey.

Susan, you will lose weight if you follow the guidelines and it is not hard to do after surgery. Please go read my profile! I was you a year ago and I am so very very different now. I just want to give you some encouragement. It is sooo worth it. My life is completely different now.

congratulations on sticking to your diet because I know it's very hard.  You will lose weight with your VSG and love it.  In time, you will start decreasing your meds.  While I can't say that I'm off or have lowered my blood pressure meds, I did reduce the celebrex to 200 mg. from 400 a day.
I don't think I would feel like I do today without it.  The past month or so I have had trouble getting to the gym but I started back on Monday.
Even went today because I was so frustrated by a number of different things that the only thing I could think of to do was ride the bike.  So I did for 25 min. and road it hard.  I felt like a new person and was able to wor****il 10 tonight.  Wow is all I can say.  I'm so surprised that I thought of doing it and actually followed through.  Just do what you can a little here and there and one day you will find yourself doing more just like that.
I keep trying to learn from my mistakes and do better the next day.  Even doing better at controlling eating out of stress.  Excersizing really makes me a better person and have a better handle on life's little stresses.
Good luck and the 27th is also my birthday.  I celebrated my reaching 100 lbs. last week with upgrading my tatoos.  woohoo!  too bad I have an allergic reaction to the surgical soap they used but I know I will be glad I did it when the itching stops, lol.
My next goal is to reach 199#.  Won't be long now.  I had to start taking a diuretic yesterday and will for one month and woke up this morning 4# lighter.  yoweee!  I know I'm still bloated and can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Hang in there and you will do very well.  Yes, your drugs will make it a bit harder but everyday will be better than the one before.

Thanks to all for the wonderful pats on the back and hope.  Unbelievable how much better I'm feeling about everything after reading all your posts.  This past 10 years has been horrible--I can't wait to get some energy and feel better!  I don't know why I thought 13 lbs. wasn't "good enough".  Probably because I lost it within a few weeks and now nothing for several weeks.   I WANT to be healthy again.  I NEED to get healthy.  The grandchildren are coming into the world at this point, and I want to be around for them!

Oh and Leah and Teri--Happy Birthday a week early!  I don't think I'll be around to wi**** on the 27th!  (Probably pressing a button on a pain med machine...;))

My best,
Susan

Hi Susan,

I can't really comment on what to expect after surgery, as I have yet to have mine.  I wanted to comment on the exercise part of your post.  I like to exercise....but with all of the extra weight I am carrying...it is very difficult.  Than being said, like another lady said, Water Aerobics is a fabulous alternative to dry land exercise.  I prefer Deep Water Aerobics as there is NO stress on your joints.  I still find that in shallow water, when jumping up and down the impact on your joints is still hard.  This has been the one form of exercise I have stuck too the longest.....it is great for your cardio, muscle tone and it will help increase your metabolism.

You sound like a very strong and determined woman...YOU CAN DO THIS!!!  Good luck and I think 13 lbs is AWESOME!!

Cheers,
Lori

Susan,
I was wondering if you have ever heard of chair exercise. Many people with joint problems find that this is very affective for them. Here is one that I have heard of
Chair Exercises for Seniors ("Zookinesis") there are many others out ther if you just google them.
Hope this helps!!!

I have extensive psoriatic arthritis, which acts much like rheumatoid.  It hurts to walk, but I do it anyway.

I can strongly recommend that if a water exercise program is available, GET INTO IT.  The water not only cushions you body, and makes it easier to move around, but it also causes resistence, whi*****reases the effects of the exercise.

I had a really good pool program when I lived in California, and was able to take off 50 pounds without dieting.  I no longer have access to a pool program (darn it), so I walk.  It hurts to walk, but I do it because I have to.

That's another advantage of the sleeve.  You WILL be able to take any medication, which is not the case with some other forms of surgery.

I take 800mg of Motrin three times a day, with no problem.

You will do fine.  The above writer is quite correct, Prednisone does indeen slow down weight loss.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I LOVE my sleeve.
