Topic: RE: VBG Sucess ????
I had a VGB in 2003 and lost 133 pounds.  I ended up getting pregnant and gained back a lot of the weight.  I deal with vomiting often and there are so many foods that I can't eat.  I consider this weight loss procedure a failure.  I had no follow-up aftercare for my surgeon stopped doing this procedure.....makes one wonder why??   I am in the process of having a revision done this summer.  I would not recommend the VGB.

It has been two weeks since my surgery and my husband and daughter both have reported losing pounds since my surgery.  My daughter has been encouraged by the healthy eating habits we are trying to put into place and she is very excited as she sees results.  My husband had VBG 10 yrs ago so he is being supportive by doing what I do as I recover.  So hang in there!!

Yep, drunk in a minute after one rum & diet coke - effects are bliss, if you have an addictive personality, no ill effects except you sober quickly and want MORE.  It is alcoholism in substitue for fat.

Topic: Choices... Before and After

I saw a commercial the other day and it really resonated with me. It was about making choices and how one good choice can often lead to another. I know that before WLS I often found that if I made 'bad' choice regarding food, I often would often give myself permission to throw in the towel and quit trying to make good choices. I think that the biggest difference for me after WLS is that I'm much more focused on trying to make good choices and much more forgiving when I make a bad choice, realizing that each new choice is a new opportunity to be where I want to be.

Soooo... when you stub your toe and make a less the optimal choice, how do you handle it? Do you handle it any differently after deciding to have WLS?

HI Shannon,  This forum is for people who have had the Verticle Banded Gastroplasty  -VBG-
you might want to post this in the VSG board, they should have some answers in there for you.  Best of luck to your boyfriend.  It's better to be overly concerned than not concerned.  :)

How many of you have had your family lose weight with you after your surgery - planned or unplanned?

I am having surgery for me and my health. I am obese. My husband and children are all chunky (though not fat). I am hoping a bonus of my WLS/eating healthier/having more energy and being more active will have a positive side effect on my entire clan and was wondering if people found this to be true from their own experiences?

Thanks, Nicole

sorry....meant to post in VSG board. I am goof ball

My bofriend if 5 weeks post op "vsg", He is very very nausous. Smells are incredibly strong and make him sick to his stomach. He eats about 3-4 bite's of soft mushy food and feels full.. But then feels like he is going to vomit. He doesnt..it just feels like it. He is chewing very slow...eating very slow. The protein water or liquid makes him gag.  He is having a hard time with loose stool also. Is anyone or has anyone experienced this type of thing? His doctor told him that he needed to get his protein in. And didnt seem concerned about his symptoms, so he thought this was normal.. Maybe im just a worry wort.
Thanks,
Shannon

Hi Kim,
I know this post is older, but I need some help. My boyfriend is 5 weeks out this tuesday. He is having a very hard time even wanting to eat. Smells are making him nauseated. He has a hard time with the liquid protein...he gets so sick to his stomach.. he is able to drink water with out gagging.. So my question to you is this.. per your above post, how long did this last for you?
Thank you so much for you help,
Shannon

Topic: Emotional Eating

I got an article from SparkPeople about emotional eating. I know that it's been an issue for me in the past... not so recent past to be honest. As many of you know, I've been under an enormous amount of stress lately... Well, actually for the last year or so, but it's really ramped up during the past 3 months. During the past year, I noticed that I was succumbing to emotional eating and put on 15 to 20 lbs... I had dropped a little low before, so i was only worried about the last 10 to 12 lbs, but I was comfort eating. I recognized what was happening that was able to identify the problems and trim off the extra 10 to 12 lbs. I found that if my weight is going up, I seem to be able to get a handle on it by logging what I'm eating. It allows me to 'see' what I'm doing and make the appropriate corrections. I didn't really have to 'diet' to the excess weight off, I just made sure that I was leading with protein and keeping my carbs under control. For me, it seems that when I let my carbs get out of control, meaning more than 30% of my total intake, then I gain, but when I can get back in line, the extra pounds just trim right back off.

Being able to see it in terms of balance rather than having diet has made a huge difference for me.

During the past 3 months, I've actually dropped another 12 lbs and I'm a little too thin. Now that I'm REALLY STRESSED, believe it or not, I've found that I have to force myself to eat. Who would have ever thought that would happen.
