Topic: RE: Old WLS is causing lots of new problems. Need help!
I had VBG in 1985 and had a similair problem in 2003 and was hopitlized for 10 weeks. However I had lost from 333lbs to 116lbs and kept it off for 17 years. When the problem started I dropped to 86lbs. They did exploratory surgery and undone my surgery. Cause staples had fallen out and were causing an infection in the lining of my stomach. Could've been fatel. I wouls suggest a consult with a good Weight Loss Surgeon in your area. ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do this immediately! Best wishes to you! As you can see I've recently had VSG and love my sleeve!!!! I can eat anything without vomitting, nothing at all like the first go round.

Topic: Time for gratitude and thanks...

As you know, I am really struggling with many stressors right now, but I have found that taking time to remember the things for which I'm grateful helps to keep me focused on doing the things I need to do to take care of myself. With that in mind, I'd like to share a few things for which I'm grateful:

* My improved health which is helping me make it through these tough times

* The fact that I'm not gaining a ton of weight during these stressful time

* The support of friends, family and acquaintances

* The companionship of my sweet, loving puppies that only ask to be loved in return

* The roof over my head and food in the pantry today

* The beauty of the season. I just love the vibrant colors as the leaves change

If you have things for which you are grateful, I'd love to have you share them. It seems that when I read others gratitude lists, it helps trigger even more things for me to add to my own list and as I am grateful, my burden is eased.

Topic: RE: VBG or Lap Band?
I had the VBG in 1999; lost 70 ish pounds.  Regained it all within 3 years.  Just had revision to RNY and surgeon confirm my staple line had come completely undone.  This surgery has a very high failure rate and is not done so often anymore.  I cannot comment on the lapband from personal experience but I know two people who have had it; one lost 1/2 of her weight... has constant problems.  The other lose 70% of her weight and has maintained for two years.  Good luck to you!

Topic: RE: Strategies for Success

During this upcoming holiday season, I am looking forward to maintaining my weight which in turn allows me to maintain my health, quality of life and yes, even the smile I see reflected when I recognize that the petite woman looking back in the mirror is actually me! To do this, I've decided that I plan to enjoy some of the special foods that the holidays bring, but that I'll be sure to

*  load with protein first

*  modify a few of my favorites so that I can enjoy them even more... I thought I'd have to give up some of my favorites, but have found some wonderful ways to enjoy them as much or more now than I did before... and without the guilt or excess 'baggage they used to bring.

*  freeze some of the delectable leftovers in portions that support my long term goals of maintaining my weight so that I don't keep going back to the fridge for 'a little morsel' now and then

These are the things I have done for the past couple of years for the holidays and other special occasions and it has allowed to have my proverbial cake, or in my world, pumpkin pie and still be happy with myself when it's all said and done.

No matter where you are in your journey, pre-op, post-op or maintenance, it's important to have some goals in mind and strategies in place to help you achieve those goals. As the holiday season approaches and so many of the festivities are surrounded by food, I though that this might be a good time to identify a few goals and some of the strategies we plan to employ to ensure success. I think that what works for one may or may not work for another, but I'm hoping that we'll be able to share and leverage some of each others ideas. With this in mind, please share some of your goals and your Strategies for Success.

Topic: RE: How are you handling Halloween this year?
Hello,

This was my halloween treat or trick:

I purchased mini hersey bars for the child next door.  I opened them for halloween and no kids came.  I ate 3 of them for three days.  Finally, got my hear on straight.  I was ready to thow them away, when I saw the mom of the little boy and gave her the bag.  I read that the carbo for three bars was 45 grams.  Wow, I am glad I gave them away.  This was my first slip since going to orientation on June 1, 2010, and surgery on 9/7/10.

Topic: RE: Singles WLS convention
This might be helpful but 70% of all the United States population is within 14 hours drive of Memphis TN.  This is why the Fedex hub is located there.  As a National convention location sight for the largest group of people that would be a great location.

You might want to start off small and regionally close to your own location.  And if price is a concern Mid Atlantic Baltimore is considered a bargain location.  But there are alternatives to that depending on the amount of interest you generate.

The problem I do see is based on numbers.  I beleive that women way out number men for weightloss surgery so a singles event might not be the best idea.  You might just want to have an event which is more inclusive of all people who have had WLS and network with other support groups to get people interested in attending such an event.  Then as part of the larger event have small party for singles.  Networking with other women who have cousins or brothers who are single couldn't hurt.

As for financing selling tables to people who see WLS patients as a target market will go a long way.  Did I mention I was an event planner and have planned a few conventions.

If you want any more advice pm me and I can help you hamer out more details.

Topic: RE: VBG or Lap Band?
What does it mean when you say you got "stuck"?  Can you briefly share your experience with the RNY?  Like did insurance cover it easily, how many days in the hospital, what was recovery like, and how does it affect you now?  How much can you eat, do you have to take medications your whole life and what cant you eat?  Thanks,
Jen
