Topic: Short Term Disability - Self Employed?
I know some people have had thier STD insurance cover bariatric surgery, but my husband and I are both self employed. It seems like everywhere I look, STD is only offered thru an employer.
Does anyone know of a STD plan that is available directly to the subscriber? My husband is getting surgery too, and I would be nice to get something back. Thanks!

Topic: RE: Lap band to a gastric sleeve?
hello,
I was just sleeved yesterday. I am a conversion too. And also had a hernia and slipped band. I did NOT however suffer from any side effects. Just no restriction and flipped port. My surgeon was able to do it all at once, but your hernia and situation could be more complicated. Is your insurance paying? It might not be a bad idea to have two surgeries. I am more happy to have it out of my stomach than anything
And if you do have to wait to get sleeved, how long will you be waiting for? They put me on a really strict diet and I stuck with it (as hard as it was) and lost 12 before surgery day. I need the structure of a diet. I am either really good with food, or the exact opposite. Your doc knows what hes' doing and you never know, they might get in there and be able to take care of both!
Good luck!

Topic: Lap band to a gastric sleeve?
Hi. I am a 5'1 185 pound woman with a slipped lap band that needs to be removed. My doctor has recommended the sleeve. Has anyone converted from a lap band to a sleeve? What are your thoughts given my situation?
Due to having the lap band slip I have developed a large hiatal hernia that needs to be operated on. My doctor would like to take my band out, fix the hernia, and do the gastic sleeve surgery as soon as possible. I'm nervous and torn about what to do. At my smallest I was 165 with the lap band and now I am only 10 pnds lighter than when I started this whole weight loss journey. I also have PCOS and a slow thyroid. I'm fearful that if I take the band out and nothing in it's place that I will gain weight.
Thanks for your support.

Topic: Any Texas patients????
Hi there!
I am an independent dietitian in Houston and I will be working with two non-surgical physicians in the future to provide pre and post-op medical and nutrition care to bariatric patients.
I am currently referring to several surgeons in Texas and have a private Facebook support group.
The existing pre-op patients would truly benefit from hearing your experiences and opinions. Not to mention, your support! I would like to connect them all with other Texas patients and their support groups, etc. If you are on FB and would like to be added to the private group, please shoot me an email.
Kind Regards,
Dana McDonald, RD, CNSC, LD

Topic: RE: What is VGB? Having band and imbrication next week!
This is a horrible idea. The stomach folding concept is pure fantasy, and it's long term affect is unknown. Have you researched all your options. Do you know about the vsg and ds surgeries?

Topic: What is VGB? Having band and imbrication next week!
I am new and have surgery scheduled next week (if the dr has the availability, otherwise it will be in a few weeks). I am having the new Imbrication surgery with a lapband and am wondering if this is similar to VBG?
I had to do it this way to get insurance to cover it. He does the Imbrication for free because it is new and only a few surgeons perform it. He says often patients don't ever have to get a fill because the Imbrication is enough. But you can get a fill once your weight-loss slows.

Topic: RE: *VBG to VSG* IS POSSIBLE!!! I Had The Revision!!!!
Congratulations! I had a VBG in 1998 and am working on getting a revision to the VSG as well. I had a surgeon, had the insurance approved, EVEN had a surgery date and then found out the Dr.'s office is engaged in insurance fraud!!!! Finding this out two weeks from when I was supposed to have surgery was quite a blow. Starting the process over again....
Once again, congrats on getting your revision!!!
