ElleK,
Good luck! I had my surgery exactly two months ago today and I was so nervous and scared. So, you are one step away from me being excited. You will be fine. Let me know how it goes.

Topic: Surgery in exactly 2hrs!!!
I'm currently in the admitting waiting room at Cedars Sinai. I am excited and haven't been to sleep (like the day before school starts or a long anticipated trip). I'm nervous about the pain ( I have a very low pain threshold lol) but excited to begin this journey. Like everyone before the surgery, I've had virtually nothing to eat in 48hrs being on the clear diet, but I'm not thinking about eating, I'm thinking about the new clothes to come, the ability to do the stairmaster without getting nauseous, and all the little mini NSV to come. I've used the posts in this forum to bolster my courage, keep me informed, and it has also been an inspiration. This is my first post, but likely not my last. Wish me luck!

Topic: Pre-Surgery Weight Loss
I'm going to try to get hold of my surgeon's nurse to clarify but I thought ya'll could probably give just as good a reply.  I have a BMI of 42 and currently no co-morbidities.  I think once I have my sleep study we'll find I have apnea but for now lets say I have none.  I can only lose around 13 lbs or I'll drop to a BMI of 39.  Now my Dr. said he's not going to penalize me for losing weight and he doesn't care if I drop 30 lbs before I'll still qualify because of my starting weight.  BUT he didn't say when that starting weight was.  That day?  The first day I meet with the NUT?  I don't meet with my NUT for another 2 weeks but I wanted to start getting on track now, but I don't want to lose weight now and 1) not have it count towards the 10 I must lose before the surgery or 2) keep my from having surgery because I'm now too low a BMI.

So any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!  Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Topic: Loving this site, loving my life!
Hello everyone.  I've been lurking around here for the past 2 months and this is my first post.  I had VSG on July 26, 2011. Since before the surgery, I have read all of your posts and have gained so much emotional strength from them.  I just wanted to thank you all for your unknowing support.  My starting weight was 298 and this morning it was 248!  That's 50lbs of my physical body that is gone, but my spirit is stronger than it's ever been.  Thank you all, dear and beautiful people.  Good luck to you all as you continue on your journeys.

Love,

Clint

Topic: RE: Exercise...
I don't like exercise either but I know that when I make an effort to walk or swim it does make a difference in my weight loss.  I wish I was more dedicated to exercise but I am trying.

Dr. Rabkin in San Francisco (yeah, other side of the country, but....) has extensive experience in Bariatrics and revisions, and is also a liver specialist (transplants and the like,) on the other side of their practice, so he's no hack surgeon just getting his feet wet and certainly knows his way around that part of the anatomy.

I travelled to have him do my VSG, though not as far.

Topic: Vitamin D3 10K UI available at local Walgreens 2 for 1 Sale

Just FYI -- If you need to take dry Vitamin D3, Walgreens stocks Natrol 10K UI Vitamin D3 tablets in their stores and has it online. It is regularly 9.99 for 60 tablets, but right now they are having 2 for 1 sale. I'm going to head over to my local Walgreens and pick some up.

BTW, not all Vitamin D3 you find at the local drug store is equal. If you have had a malabsorbtive procedure you can't absorb it using the gel caps and need the dry, tablet version. Here is the URL the online information for this product so that you can order online or know what to look for if you go into your local store. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/natrol-vitamin-d3-10%2c000- iu-dietary-supplement-tablets/ID=prod6063891-product
