Topic: vertical sleeve gastrectomy
I am looking for a GOOD Dr. to have a bariatric sleeve operation. I have insurance but it will not cover this surgery. I am willing to pay cash. I have diabetes and high blood pressure and need help finding a surgeon who will charge no more than $11000. for everything.
Topic: Do Not let someone bully you
Hi Everyone,
Recently I have heard of a couple of people who have backed out from having Weight Loss Surgery with Dr. Aceves. I think to myself what a shame. For the most part they backed out because their “own" families had been giving them such a bad time about doing this.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/confused.gif)
I consider these family members “Adult Bully’s" they are the worst kind of bully. Your very own family should be there to support and encourage you to make your life better and most of all healthy.
You are going to DIE so much faster from being fat. You have an illness or disease and it is called Obesity. If a Doctor told your family that if you did not have your appendix out you were going to die—they would say go ahead and take it out. If you do not have Weight Loss Surgery, you are going to be in poor health and it could result in your death Please think about what I am saying.
You are an adult and you DO NOT owe them any explanation of what you are doing. Stand up for yourself and your health and be a hero and save your own life. I know it is hard for you to stand up for you—if you can’t then I will stand up for you. You do not need their permission to have weight loss surgery.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/chatterbox.gif)
You have earned the right to make these kinds of choices for yourself—you are an adult. Most of us have experienced a little of this negative kind of remarks and comments from someone before we have weight loss surgery, but we learned we had to do what is best for us. STOP giving away your power to make good and healthy choice for YOU.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/angel2.gif)
This is NOT about them, this is ALL about you. Take back your power and control—YOU can do this. If you need someone to talk to them and educate them, I am more than happy to talk with them. I find that most of the time people who are these “Adult Bully’s" when it comes to weight loss surgery are misinformed, scared, have all the wrong medical information, and just need a little education. Some are also scared they will lose you if you become skinny and they remain fat. They are being selfish and that is really sad.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/broken_heart.gif)
I want you to take back your power and put yourself first. It has been years since you have done this. There are so many of us out here who support you and will be there every step of the way with you. So if you are sitting out there and reading these posts and someone has bullied you, this message is directed to you. They want to keep you under their power and control—that is so wrong!! You NO longer need to fear what they think. I am here to help you in any way I can. You can be very successful and healthy and take back your life. Again this is ALL ABOUT YOU AND NO ONE ELSE.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/biggrin2.gif)

Topic: RE: How long in the hospital...
I was in the hospital from Friday morning til Sunday morning. I wouldve been able to go home Saturday evening but the surgeon was tied up and not able to come back to the hospital to discharge. I wasn't able to take a shower until that Sunday morning and was I ever ready for one! Good luck!
Topic: Help??
Hopefull
I feel like I am losing weight really slowly but I am not sure as to why? It started off good when I was on the liquid diet. I lost 22 lbs in three weeks..now its been 2 weeks since then, and I have only lost another 3 lbs. Maybe its because its lack of exercise, but what should I be eating?? I dont think ive been eating badly, and I drink tons of water. Thank you

current BMI: 24.7 107 pounds lost
12 pounds lost on pre-diet
40.7: starting BMI
***4 pounds to goal!(149) **next goal will be 147. highest weight 260 current weight: 153
First off...my signature is incorrect, I have gained weight...not all...but I am here to get back on track.
To answer your question, I would definately do this again. I know without this "tool" I would have gained back every pound. It has been almost 3 years since my surgery. The first 1 1/2 were easy...but then old habits came back. (I had a move in there and other emotional things that occurred.)
Anyway, it is a tool and you must remember to still eat correctly and follow the rules! I still have restriction. I can remember reading about "eating around your sleeve" and didn't pay much attention to that advice because I didn't really understand because I was still eating right.
Not thinking is what caused my weight gain. Good luck with your decision.

Topic: RE: Checking in 3 and a half years out
Congratulations. I am back to these boards for motivation. I had surgery in August 2009 and unfortunately I did not keep all of my weight off. This is motivating to me and I started truly dieting again last week. (5 pounds down)
To anyone reading this...believe what they tell you...VSG is a tool and you have to use it wisely! I went back to old...bad...habits!
Congratulations again for keeping your weight off!
****I have to edit my signature...unfortunately the information is incorrect....Wow...that is eye opening!

Topic: RE: Any band-to-sleeve complication/issues/horror stories?
Not to jinxy you, but hopefully to get to you keep your guard up, I also did really well. For a month. Then it very rapidly went to hell... something about being able to enjoy eating (not food but eating) turned back on and it was like I'd never be allowed to have food again.
Something is going on with me again because I'm suddenly craving nothing but junk food - mostly chips - but no nutritious food at all. And I keep giving in. I haven't done that in ages so I'm hoping I can figure out what it's about before I put on 20lbs (I've already gained 5 in 2 weeks!).
Do you have a surgery date or do you have to wait for more exams & approvals (I'm having to go through all the pre-surgery process again - exams, psych eval, diet...)??

Hi Laura, It's kind of strange because I know that I no longer have any saline/fill, but I am still eating slowly and carefully. So that must mean I have developed some good habits out of all of this! Ha!
Definitely will keep you posted if I learn any good hints about the sleeve. My doc did warn me that it could "leak", but he's such a great surgeon, I'm not worried.
Take care, Kelley
