about not getting un-filled unless it's removed too.
Yes, went to the doc today and got scheduled for Monday at 12:30 pm. Wish me luck! Oh, and the doctor said to me during my appointment: "You've gained weight." I said "no, I lost 7 pounds." The assistant had written the before and after amounts in backwards! Sheesh!
All the best to you. I'll write when I get over that 'hump' and tell you how it goes.
I'm trying to take an attitude of "everything works out as it should" about all the problems but I don't really believe it at this point. I got approval for lapband removal (I just had my total unfill last week) but I'm not going to bother unless I get revision.
NEXT MONDAY? Holllly crap, that's soon! GOOD LUCK!
I went to my final nutrition meeting last night. Was good and informative. About 30 people were there, all of them wanting one of the surgeries (Sleeve or RNY). Today I have a consultation with my doctor, so will get the final date (which I was told is tentatively next Monday, so we'll see). I'll keep you posted.
YES, I am a little bit nervous....I am told the first few days are pretty rough. Hope I don't have a meltdown! ha ha!
Take care and I'll be sending positive thoughts your way. (Going down to see my folks again tomorrow; I'll wave when I go by Long Beach!).
Please let me know when you have the specific date so I can send good vibes your way. And see how your personal "what the hell have i done?" meltdowns go! (lol)
I'm back up in the air again. Found out, last Thurs, that I haven't even been submitted for insurance approval because of my old surgery center not providing my psych eval. So now I'm starting that process again (all out of pocket), then get that approval, then wait 2 weeks for insurance approval, then another 2-4 weeks for surgery. Looks like I'll be lucky to get this done before November.
But I'M SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!

So weird and frustrating about getting different information and answers too from different sources and office people. I got my band unfilled a few months ago and it was a real relief.
I went to a good nutritional meeting on Wednesday night. Really learned a lot and got my priorities straight as far as eating protein first (I had forgotten that). Afterwards, I saw my surgeon at his portion of the meeting and he asked me, "Where are you at?" meaning in my preparations. I filled him in and spoke again with the nutritionist. It seems as if I am pretty much ready to go. I believe my surgery will be in about a week or two. Getting a little bit nervous now! My surgeon said that the sleeve is a little bit more tricky with people who have had the band due to the scar tissue. Well, we will see...
Some of the people at the meeting did scare me a bit with their "two weeks of hell" following surgery and "I had a major meltdown" comments. Well, at least I know what to expect....the bad before the good. I have lost about 7 pounds now, so will continue to try to lose a few more. Wow, someone at your meeting lost 94 lbs? I would be in heaven losing 60...cannot imagine losing 90!! But even when I lost 50 initially with the band, I was still in the obese BMI category. I was on phen/fen too and did really well with it!
Been down in West L.A. for a few days this week. My husband is an Army veteran and we've been going to the V.A. clinic there near Sawtelle for his major dental treatments. Will your hospital be in the Long Beach area? Mine will be here in Santa Barbara.
Take care and thanks again for everything! All the best to you in the next few weeks. I'll try to write and keep you posted when and if I get it done soon!
I had a great surgeon at last night's talk. He's very proactive with follow-up. Since I don't have a support network, I may request him as my surgeon.
I also got a contact to get an appt for my band unfill. It's been giving me tons of problems again so I'm ready to undo it now, rather than waiting for my insurance approval for surgery. I tried calling on Monday but whoever answered said they "only see patients on monrnings on Mondays" and were full till Oct!?!?
I thought I'd have insurance approval by now but I haven't heard a thing. And the pre-diet is still up in the air. Whoever I talked with last week said I don't need it (but I still planned to do a week). Last night they said we have to do 3 weeks. Who's in charge?!?
We had a post-sleeve patient in our nutrition seminar. She's lost 94 lbs in 8 months (looks to be a size 6 now) and says it's the best thing she ever did. She had the recovery week of "what did I do to myself?" but says she adjusted rapidly and no longer craves bad food. She "sees food like normal person" (which I did while on phen/fen).
At our Doctor talk, the surgeon insisted that sleeve patients see FASTER and BETTER results than bypass, which is contrary to everything I've read but he should know. He was saying that a big difference is the stomach removal - because it elminates the ghrelin/craving hormone. I didn't realize that doesn't occur with bypass, because the part of the stomach that creates that hormone is still inside their body.
He also said that sleeve is better even if someone ends up getting stomach cancer because with the bypass people, the moved stomach can get infected and they can only see it via exploratory surgery... so they can be quite ill before a problem is discovered. By removing that during sleeve, there's no chance of it having a festering infection that no one could see. Who knew?
