All the insurance companies are so different on the procedures they cover. I have Aetna and was told at the get go they would not approve the VBG-I had an approval within 1 week. If this is the procedure you want don't back down, appeal if needed! Good luck to you! Katrina

Hey Jen, I'm very pleased with my decision to have VBG. I did quite a bit of research before my surgery and decided this was best for me. I have lost 53lbs and feel great! VBG isn't as popular as it once was due to new procedures. Everyone is different; some people don't agree this is the best procedure because you can "eat what you want"-wrong! I follow the same food guidelines as other procedures. My weight loss is consistent with the other procedures as well. It works if you do what your suppose to-which is the reason why we made this life changing decision, right? This web site has been instrumental in my progress, I'm glad you found it! Katrina

Topic: Ulcers???
Question for anyone out there....Has anyone who has had the VBG developed ulcers after their surgery? I am eight months out and have been every two or three days. About a month ago, my stomach was scoped and they found a couple of small (?) ulcers. The gastrologist said this was not uncommon with persons who have had the VGB. In speaking to some others in my support group who have had the same surgery, they had never heard of this. I am currently taking Protonics in the morning along with Carfate an hour before each meal. It's not helping as much as I would like as I still the same as I did before. However, I don't seem to have the burning or hunger-like pain that I was having before the meds. Kudos to anyone who has any comments or suggestions re my ulcers. Hugs, Granny Eileen

Topic: RE: question
Hey Jen, I responded on the other board also, but I just wanted to tell you that for me I was surpised that the surgery DID NOT hurt as bad as I expected. I was up walking (slowly and with help) the day after. It took me about a week and a half after I got home to have enough strength to stand in the shower without holding on to something (my wife was VERY helpful during the recovery). I was sitting up and on the computer etc. the day I got home from the hospital and could have worked virtual if I had needed to. For me, right now the hardest part is the liquid/mush diet along with the serving restrictions and living in the same house where good food is cooked every day and I just can't have any. That is a mental thing, not really a hunger thing. I smell the Chicken Fried Steak and my head says "I want me some of that"...of course my little pouch would say "NO WAY". Also, follow the directions on amount and speed of eating. I have had 2 "discomfort" times and they were both due to me eating too fast. Discomfort is definitely the proper word...and as per the video and Dr. Harberg's discusssion...you will "V" if you get off the path. I go this week for hopefully my new diet and will weigh in. I will update after that. Congratulations and GOOD LUCK with your upcoming WLS! May your surgery be as painless as mine. Happiness... MKJ

Topic: question
Why is this board so slow? Well i am looking for answers from vbg-ers I wanted to know if this was a good decision for you and if any at all, what complications have you had. It just seems like there is so many people to get info on the rny or the lap-band from on this site but other surgeries are kind of limited.thanks for what ever info you can help me out with in advance. p.s I love this site though. Topic: RE: My Weight Loss Goals for Today...
Christine, I hope that everything is going well for you now. I had a bout of depression which sent me into a tail spin. Finally starting to feel "normal". Started back to losing weight again. It is hard to stay focused. Any little "bump" in my daily routine can send me spinning out of control. Lost 5 pounds so far this week. As it is my first week back on "program" I expect to lose 7 pounds. Then nothing for a week. Then 3 pounds... and so on and so on. Sharon
