I had a simiilar surgery in 1990, much like the VBG (vertical silicone gastroplasty) and I am scheduled for a revision to the RNY next month.  Like a lot of people, I did not lose very much weight and had a lot of on-going difficulties (vomiting, can't eat red meat, etc.).  So, yes, this revision is quite common.  Just make sure you find a surgeon who understands and has done these type of revisions before.  My surgery will be a OHSU in Portland, Oregon.  Good Luck.

I am sticking with the RNY. Feel it is the best choice for me.

Thank you for the positive comments about the VBG surgery!!! i am having the surgery in 12 days and the people on here are scaring me to death. i have researched this procedure and I know the statistics but my surgeon thinks this is the best surgery for me. I dont' tend to have cravings and I don't really snack which probably leads me to my main problem gorging myself about 2 times a day to take care of the hunger. Anyways just wanted to say thanks for being positive. I have gotten really excited about the surgery and then all I hear are bad things about this surgery. Christina

Check out the VSG forum here on OH. I'll bet you could revise to that and there are some good docs in LA that do the vertical sleeve. Good luck.

So - what did you decide?  I had my VBG in December, have lost almost 50 pounds, and have no regrets at this point.

There is a Revision forum where you may want to go to get more information. I had VBG about 13 years ago and I did not lose much weight either. I'm working now with a surgeon to do a revision (awaiting insurance approval now).

Would someone please explain what a revision is?  I had a VBG about 10 years ago. Did not lose very much weight.  I still have a lot to lose.  Would a person with a previous VGB be a candidate for gastric bypass.  Please help

I underwent VBG surgery about 10 years ago.  I did not have the results I was hoping for. I still have a lot of weight to lose.  I heard about a revision to the VBG.  Does anyone have info on this?  Would it be possible to have a Roux-en-Y after a VBG?

i doing ok,  i find i have sneaked in some items that i shouldnt, but overall im hangin in there, the problem i face right now is that i do get full  with mealsbut 1/2 hr later i want to eat again!! and when i snack it seems like i could snack forever. i still throw up if i eat pork sometimes and i had one mouthful of chicken last night over the top and out it  came. portion size varies, it depends on the food. i can eat one slice bread with tuna and im stuffed. but i can eat a huge bowl of salad. i eat about 1/2 chicken breast. i find i get fullest on protein. im getting in 2 litres of water a day im still having problems with constipation but i guess thats the only downside. i now have 4,5 pounds to goal which i hope to attain by my one year anniversay jun 7 2007. you are doing so well with your loss. keep it up and if i can help just let me know!!!! i know there are very few vgbers around,i know one gal who is having a hard time with hers. take care vicky

Hey, congrats on losing all of that weight! That's awesome! I also had a VBG (12/26/06), and would love to know how you're dealing with yours. What kinds of things do you eat? How much? I feel so alone...! Take care, and awesome job.  - Krystal 388/342/277/210
