Topic: Ok, i need help :)
I have been stuck for the last 4 months, and lost great in the first year after the sleeve, but have barely lost anything in the last 6 months.. i just read what someone else said about realizing she was drinking and I am also, hadn't even thought of it, but that cant by itself make me quit losing can it?
Anybody have any ideas other than back to liquid for a short time or the pouch test and what do you think will work best.. I dont care what i have to do, i want to lose more weight, i do not want to be stuck here..  I am glad to be back here also, i need to devote more time to the board, i really miss you guys.  I have had a lot going on, back surgery, ankle surgery, physical therapy and now i have to have the joint below the ankle fused, i go to the surgeon on Wednesday.  Please let me know any ideas

Topic: Eating Triggers

We all have eating triggers. They might be related to our environment, or emotions, social settings, our mental state or even our biological needs for fuel.

It's important that we identify our triggers, subtle and obvious, so that we can recognize and manage them. Please think about your eating triggers and let's discuss what they are and ways we can manage them so that we don't become slaves to them.

Here's a recipe that I think you'll enjoy!

Shrimp with Corn and Citrus Cabbage Slaw

This wonderful salad was inspired by a shrimp taco recipe that I found it a Real Simple magazine. I made more of the corn and citrus cabbage slaw and used a lite sour cream. This great summertime meal that takes only 20 minutes!

1/3

cup

fresh orange juice

3

Tbs

fresh lime juice

3

Tbs

lite sour cream

Kosher salt and black pepper

1/2

small cabbage (16 oz.), shredded

2

cups

corn kernels

1

jalapeño, seeded and chopped

1

Tbs

olive oil

1

lb

peeled and deveined medium shrimp

1

In a large bowl, whisk the orange and lime juices, sour cream, 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Add the cabbage, corn and jalapeño and toss to combine. Let sit, tossing occasionally, for 10 minutes.

2

Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the shrimp with ½ tsp salt and ¼ tap pepper. Coo****il opaque throughout, 2 to 3 minutes.

3

Serve the shrimp with the slaw.

Topic: Do you have all four legs of your chair on the floor?

Last night I held a local Grads Group Get Together. It's directed towards those who have had their surgery a year or more ago.

As we were talking, I mentioned that I think that there are four major components to long-term success and that without all of them, We end up in a precarious position that can cause us to falter; just like when you have a weak leg on a chair. I think that the four legs of success are:

Accountability

Exercise

Support

Pouch

Acountability varies for each of us. Some like to post what they eat in a public venue. Personally, I weigh every day. If I noticed an upward trend, I know that I need to get more 'accountable' about what I'm putting in my mouth, so I start logging what I'm eating. Seeing my weight on a daily basis allows me to really keep a close eye on my weight. Unfortunately, even though I no longer wear elastic waist anything, I can't rely on my clothes to alert me if I've gained 5 lbs, so I hit the scales.

Exercise is crucial to our long term succesa and health. Some go the gym, some run, some take classes... I wear a pedometer and if I don't have 10K on it, I know I have to get my tail out and move it.

Support has been found to be essential to long-term success in a number of studies.  I think that OH has been a pivotal support mechanism for me, but I have found the need to connect with others in person as well. That's why I started our local support group and why I have expanded beyond the general meetings to include special interest groups.

Surgery and the pouch has given us the tool we need to strip off the excess weight as well as an effective tool to help us keep it off if we learn to use it. Initally, it seems that we have to wrestle with our pouches as we learn to adjust to them, but with time they ease up on us and we learn to work with them. As we move past the initial weight loss, we need to learn to USE the pouch to continue to reap the long-term benefits that it offers to help us maintain the weight loss and incredible quality of life improvements.

So... Do you have all four legs of your 'chair' on the floor to ensure that you can not only lose the weight, but keep it off long term?

Topic: RE: Need Information
I had mine done in 1986, and like you the weight is back. My only complication has been with my esophagus. I had to have it dilated a few times becausr things became "stuck". I can now eat everything in large amounts.
I also have a ventral hernia ( no big deal for me, I'm fat and this happens).
Now the fistula is something else.... Do you have a "leak" of stuff into your abdominal cavity or is your internal staple line popped and food is moving from your pouch into the tied off portion of your stomach?
I was all set for a RNY, since my insurance company will pay for this, but then I found out about DS (which the insurance company never mentioned, but also covers). I am looking for someone who 1) does revisions and 2) has had some experience with a VBG to DS.
I have found this  web site to be so helpful. Keep reading you may get your answer.
Let me know if I can be of help.

I am an "old, (1986)", VBG w/silastic ring.
I too have been scoped and dilated 3X (once a pill became stuck). Since then I have not had any more problems, in fact now I eat everything in Large Amts.
From all I have read the 2nd time the weight loss is not as dramatic, but I can't find numbers or percentages.
I am now seeking revision surgery to a DS. I have been advised to seek out a surgeon who has done this before, since revisions are more complicated and longer surgeries., I am still looking for my surgeon. There is some great info if you go through the posts.
One of the most significant to me was, most doctors have their "favorite" revision and will try to steer you in that direction. So read some posts and make a good decision for your situation.

I had a VBG w/silastic ring way back in 1986 ( vertical scar down my belly).
I too am looking for a surgeon for a revision.
Many doc's don't want to delve into this since it is more complicated . I have been told  to research, to find someone who has done this before, and I am still looking.
Good luck with your hunt.
