It seems like a dream , i got my call from Dr. O's office Monday 4-17, and a scheduled date for surgery on MAY 1st!! The 19th i had the upper endoscopy done, today i had all my blood work, EKG, Chest x-ray, and breathing test... on the 25th i have my final visit with Dr. O'Brien and then the pre-op class, then my "RE-Birth" on May 1st at 12:30pm.. I'm so excited, nervous, scared.... so many feelings all rolled into one. sometimes i can't sit still, and find myself calling someone/anyone to talk about the upcoming events... hahaha my boyfriend is nervous that i'm gonna change and not want to be with him, i have been doing everything possible to not make him feel that way. I know/realize that i will change emotionally, but i feel it'll be a good change, and for the better. I love him and look forward to all the things we'll be able to do together and with our kids. I am scared about losing friends, but have come to realize that if they turn their backs on me later, they never were friends to begin with i guess. i'm a nurse aide and this fall will be goin back to college to obtain my RN. i know how i'm feeling is normal, and i understand what to expect. but as life, many things are easier said than done. Any advice on things i might want to bring to the hospital? I am having RNY Open, and will be there for 3 days atleast. does anyone know if you can "rent" laptops with wireless internet around my area?? (minnesota) my big day is almost here, I'm looking forward to it!! my 31st birthday is June 3rd, i'm thinking this is gonna be thee best birthday present i could ever give myself, a new shot at a much healthier life! someone told me when i was pregnant for the first time, "your not the first to get pregnant and you won't be the last" as with WLS... i'm not the first, and definatley not the last.... i'm just a number in a long line of persons seeking out a better healtier life! I love the support of with website, and have found it so useful and uplifting, as well as a good reality check!! This weekend is our state bowling tournaments, and with all us gals goin for the weekend, it'll be nice to party the weekend away in usual bowling tradition as our shirts state... "i'm a member of a drinking team with a bowing problem" HAHAHAHA I hope to bowl good, and be "in-the-money"! i hope the bowling gods are on my side this weekend!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!! ~Alison

Very well said. I second everything this person just said. Keep a food diary. You'd be surprised at what you eat that you're not suppose to. Granted that it could be hormonal changes and such, but nip it in the bud. It could be that you'll identify one itty bitty change that you need to make that will turn things around again.

RNY on 11/15/05 with
Alison; Congrats on getting your date! Get ready for a wild ride! In terms of what to take to the hospital, don't bother renting a laptop. You'll sleep most of the time you're there. I didn't read or anything while I was in the hospital and believe me, I don't go on vacation without taking my laptop. I do recommend that you take the following: 1. chapstik - Your lips will be VERY dry from the anesthetic. 2. a pillow - The pillow is great to have to brace against if you need to cough or sneeze and especially for the ride home for when you hit bumps. 3. a robe - For modesty when you're taking your walks around the hospital halls. 4. something soft and comfortable to wear for the ride home. If you're having open, I'm assuming they'll give you a binder to help hold your incision together, but just in case, plan on not being able to wear a bra, so bring something to wear home that will minimize any modesty issues you may have about being braless in public. Also, nothing with a tight waist band. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. I was the fifth one in my family to have WLS, so I've seen a lot in the last 8 years. And finally, prayers for a complication-free procedure and speedy recovery are coming your way! Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 178 / 137
