acholic beverage
Hi Katrina,
Alcohol does not affect VBGers the same way it does RNYers at all. We are just like it was before surgery in terms of the affects of alcohol except now that I lost so much weight I cannot drink as much as i could when i was at my highest weight.
As far as recommendations...stay away from sugary drinks because they are so many calories. I also say stay away from beer because of the carbonation. If you are more than 3-4 months out I would say that's enough time to wait, but I am no surgeon for sure Wine might be a good choice espcially red wine because it has some good effects aside from getting you tipsy I drink diet coke and rum when i go out with my friends because its low calorie...some people say stay away from diet soda because of the carbonation, but when its a mixed drink usually it kills a lot of the bubbles!
Basically just listen to your body....it will tell you if its too much for you at this point. Also remember before surgery you may have been able to eat a big meal and the affects of the drink take longer tohit you and now that is not the case. Also...don't drink through a straw...I did that accidentally once and got a huge air bubble in my tummy that caused me to throw up almost without warning. It could have been very embarassing, but luckily I made it to the bathroom
Hugs,
Sara
