Hi Guys, I am thinking about doing this surgery (VBG or Gastroplasty -- have not decided really) and I am very nervous. Also, I hear from a LOT of people that they throw up all the time. One lady said she became a pro at throwing up while driving! I have not puked in 11 years, and I dont want to start now! I have a horrible fear of it -- I dont know why!! My question is, does everyone throw up after surgery for some reason or another? And is there anyway to avoid it? Is it horrible like when your sick? I know this is kinda weird, but Im just super curious! And if there is anyone with my same phobia, please please please let me know Im not alone!! Thanks!

Hi there! I think you are choosing a great route to follow. Any surgery that can be reversed if neccessary has to be okay. You will do great if you follow your plan, and only eat until your pouch feels full. If at anytime you feel pain or discomfort, then stop eating, and wait awhile until trying again. Throwing up does not have to be a part of this wls. The only times I have thrown up have been because I didn't chew, chew, chew, the meat or because I drank liquid too soon after having a bite to eat. In other words, it was my own fault. Frequent throwing up is not normal, so don't worry. I HATE THROWING UP, TOO! I rarely get sick-ever, and have only had one really bad nausiated day. Good luck, and hope to hear how you are doing! Hi Jessica, I had surgery a little over 9 months ago and I have thrown up a few times, but nothing serious. It is not at all like being sick sick. I do get a warning that its coming (watery mouth feeling), so I have never been embarassed in public or thrown up in the car or anything. It usually happens to me when I am eating too fast and not chewing my food enough. I think this has been a blessing for me and really taught me to relearn how to eat. I haven't been sick after eating for a couple of months now. I think getting sick is part of the process and it is not something to be fearful about, but I do understand your concern 100% because before surgery I was worried about it too. If you have any additional questions about this or anything else please feel free to email me directly. Best of luck to you! Hugs, Sara 356/244/175
