Hi- How many grams of protien is recommended to eat everyday? I thought it was 28 grams, but someone told me that it was 48? I would think that would be impossible with as little as I can eat now, I know my surgeon does not like protien shakes so that is out of the question. Any other suggestions for getting protien in other than cottage cheese, string cheese, beans, chicken, etc? any help would be greatly appreciated. Am three weeks post op now and not regretting it!

I am only 10 days out, and I was told 60 grams. I will admit though that my surgeon does require protein shakes, and that is how I get most of it in. The foods that you mentioned are good sources. Good luck to you!

You should try and get 50g minimum. And, I would question the reason your surgeon does not allow protein shakes. I suspect it is because he does not want you to drink your calories, but even if you had "half" of one, that was say 20g, it would help tremendously in getting to that 50g, and only be about 100 calories. I definitely recommend protein shakes, and lots of vitamins....it will boost your energy. Otherwise you may feel tired and not want to exercise. ~Kim Open VBG 9/1/04 -39

My surgeon told me at least 60 to 65 grams a day. I noticed when I started my hair stopped shedding. With that much protein you just have to about use shakes.
