I think if you have stayed away from sweets and are not drinking your calories than you may just be on a mini-plateau. I have had a number of periods of not losing weight for up to 3 weeks at a time. I think that sometimes your body just needs to "catch-up". However, just because you are not losing weight does not mean you are not losing inches. As we get more physically fit and move and exercise more we gain more muscle. I would suggest that you start taking measurements so that you can check that when you feel like you are not losing like you were. I also track my weight loss on Fitday.com -- there is a report area that allows you to see what your weight loss progress has been over time (up to 1 year out). I try to input my weight atleast once 1 month sometimes even once a week. You can also track your food intake on there. I do it on occassion to see if I need to adjust my eating habits at all. I imagine you are having fears that you are "done" losing. I know that I go through that fear each time I stop losing for a period of time. It is easy to scare myself. But then I start losing again and feel better. I am trying hard not to weigh myself as often now that I am farther out from surgery. I certainly do not lose as fast as I did in the first 6 months. I have placed on my profile my weight loss month by month (it's nearer the top). Sounds to me like you are doing fine. Best Regards, Sharon -115#

Gloria - my surgery buddy! Hey there! You are doing SO well! I weighed 317 the morning of my surgery and I now weigh around 270, so you're doing much better than I! I've had some health problems (mainly anemia) not related to WLS and I just underwent surgery to help (hopefully) rectify that situation (girl-type surgery!). Also, I'm hoping to get on the excercise band wagon soon! I'm thinking about riding my bike (with my 18-month old baby in tow) with my 8 year old to school every morning and every afternoon. That would be 8 miles a day (broken up). Now, if I can just get my butt on a bike, I'll be doing well! So, that's my goal for this month. I'm not doing well on the liquids - I hate water and I'd rather drink nothing that H20, so I need to work on that as well. You're probably hitting a plateau. You'll get out of this rut, I'm sure! Hang in there -you're doing great! -Wendy

Sharon is right and you are doing fine. I think we are so much in a hurry that we forget how well we are really doing. Believe me those little plateaus will pass. I have had them and I am below my goal. You are doing great. Stop worrying, you'll get frown lines. Dianne

There is a paperback book called "The Ultimate Fit or Fat" by Covert Bailey, which is tells you more than you ever wanted to know about fat metabolism and exercise. I recall he emphasizes that you must be sure when working out that you can comfortably carry on a conversation while exercising. That makes sure you stay in the aerobic exercise zone, where you burn fat and calories. If you are pushing yourself until you are out of breath when you exercise, you move into anaerobic exercise, which does not burn fat. Just make sure you can talk to your neighbor while you're on the treadmill!
